Many of us often do marathons across the Whoniverse, so why not make a thread for all of our journeys across any media?
Currently, I’m trying to do all of 5’s stories in in-universe chronological order, after watching TKoT/Logopolis/Castrovalva, starting with relistens of Psychodrome and Cold Fusion.
I’m so close SO CLOSE to starting that for my timeline marathon/release marathon I’m on the Sharon comics atm with 4 then a couple audios post Sharon pre lesiure then have a few releases to do like novelisations then I can start s18 and be one step closer to saying goodbye to 4 and hello 5 it’s taken me almost a full year to finish 4
Love this Idea!
Was thinking of doing a Marathon myself, but probably won’t do that for quite a while. The closet I have to do is I guess focusing on either a Character and finishing all their Stories in a short space of time (if possible), might try and rewatch the Show chronologically someday or read all the EDAs chronologically whenever I am finished it with them .
Good luck to you on your Marathon and of course also to @Rock_Angel, Brave Heart you two!
I’ve thought about doing a Five marathon. I even created a topic for it (The Fifth Doctor Era). The idea was that I’d edit a timeline of sorts as I progressed that would be a potential review showcase for me. However, it was also there as a discussion page for the Fifth Doctor era in general.
It’s not precisely a marathon because I’m not going strictly in order, but I am trying to complete all Romana stories, and I’ll think I’ll do them in release order from now on. It’s easier than making a choice every time
I’m doing the same thing for Romana, again not really a marathon. I’m trying to finish off the books shes in at the moment. I’ve got as far as the first warriors gate novelisation
I have all the short stories that are in anthologies done with. Just by selectively picking out hers because reading every short trip would drive me insane i think. I did read the whole first… 7ish short trip books?
Oh doing all the short trip books will drive you insane, been doing them on-off since last Summer and still have 150+ Stories ahead of me. I do quite like them, but some of them are really poor and then others are really really good, it’s a big Who Gamble. I do recommend catching-up on them maybe someday in the Future, especially since a few Books have quite short short Stories to them, but of course do what works for you the best!
I have actually read two of the Short Trips books in their entirety and I do plan to do more. I find it really interesting what weird stuff you can stumble upon. Also my uni library has four of those books for some reason
I’m also doing a not-exactly-a-marathon where I’m trying to complete all Romana stories but not necessarily in the right order. Have recently been going through all the prose Short Trips anthologies for all her stories which I’ve really enjoyed, and reading short stories has actually been really helpful with getting me back into reading again, which is something I’ve been struggling with lately. I love how weird some of those short stories are. VNA time soon – I’m so excited for Blood Harvest and Happy Endings because Romana and Benny! And of course, Lungbarrow, which I’m about halfway through and I think has the potential to be one of my favourite doctor who stories ever.
On March 14th 2011, I started a thread over on Gallifrey Base entitled ‘A History of the Universe’. My plan was to watch, read and listen to every Doctor Who story in the order set out by Lance Parkin in the various editions of his massive, fascinating tome AHistory (which has been through four editions with the ever expanding Whoniverse). His work organised all of Doctor Who in order of its chronological placement in line with the planet Earth’s history.
I had a few caveats - I wouldn’t be including novels or short stories, with a few exceptions, simply because I’m a terribly slow reader and this project was going to take long enough as it was.
I also planned on including some non-Who content such as Indiana Jones, Quantum Leap, Sherlock Holmes and The Tomorrow People.
So, starting with Exploration Earth: The Time Machine and working through stories such as Time-Flight and Twilight of the Silurians I began to explore prehistoric Earth and in time moved through Roman times, the Renaissance, the Victorian era and two World Wars.
Now, in 2025, I’m still slowly working my way through and am midway through the 1950s at the moment.
Although most of my reviews have been ported over to TARDIS Guide, I still keep a blog with them ‘in order’. Occasionally, I would do the odd ‘flashback’ if there was a story released after I had passed that point in history that I wanted to review. My reviews have also developed slightly from the early days.
If you want to see how mad this all is, you can visit my blog:
I should also mention, I am trying to complete every single Whoniverse story ever released, in release order. In that marathon, I’m up to July 1966, so if I’m lucky, I might reach January 2000 before the turn of the century.
I’ll put it in perspective I’m currently on the 1980s pretty much just started that decade but it took me like a year to get to this point including my timeline marathon made it take longer
