Last choice: you think the Doctor should use the antigravity lift shaft

The Doctor finds the antigravity shaft broken, wrecked by debris, but climbs it manually, chased by the glowing-eyed nanite monster below.

Terror Moon - Page 44

The Doctor ascends the antigravity shaft, hands in pockets, to a platform beneath a starry dome. A fierce red-haired woman points a weapon at him, shouting, ā€œKeep back!ā€

  • If you think he should stay and face the woman with the gun

I think that it would be fun if we were like: ā€œF**k this, I don’t want to face someone with a gun.ā€ And jump back to the flesh-eating monsters.

Well, this was a silly chapter with a silly choice.

As much as I agree that it would be fun to just have the Doctor jump down again, I don’t like retracing my steps without good reason, so let’s face the woman instead.

Is death a real option in this books? feels like it might be…

The author of the last one told us that there were bad endings.

I don’t think the Doctor regenerated, but I do remember encountering bad endings on my first few reads a couple years back

The woman sounds scared, I think it’s best to stay

Last choice: you think he should stay and face the woman with the gun

The Doctor disarms Penny, a trapped scientist whose escaped malignocites killed her team. ā€œBlame later,ā€ he says. ā€œFor now, we fight back.ā€

A malignocite clambers up the shaft. The Doctor blasts it with the flamethrower, but it returns, now with reinforcements.

With the creatures advancing, the Doctor melts a hole in the dome. Grabbing Penny’s hand, he shouts, ā€œJump!ā€ and they leap to escape.

The Doctor and Penny free-fall to the moon’s surface, landing safely thanks to its low gravity.

Out of breath, Penny warns about the thin atmosphere. The Doctor leads her to an airlock, using his sonic screwdriver, though it resists opening.

Okay, two things:

Nice to meet Penny and all, but I’m genuinely upset that we just dumped Jiao. Especially since Penny has very similar vibes.

Also, this is the chance to deviate from the usual route of making the sonic a magic wand. So that’s why the airlock should stay sealed.

It’s such a shame the sonic screwdriver does not work on everything!

This is the first time our decision is more ā€œcontrolling the universeā€ than controlling the Doctor’s actions.

It could have been rewritten to something like:

Keep trying the airlock with the screwdriver
Give up and try something else
