Torchwood: The Story Continues is a Big Finish series that really just does what it says on the tin, continuing the story of Torchwood Three after the events of Miracle Day.

It features returning characters Gwen Cooper, Captain Jack Harkness, Rhys Williams, and Andy Davidson (And Bilis Manger for a couple of stories), and introduces new characters Tyler Steel, Mr Colchester, Orr, Ng, and (minor spoilers as is on some covers) Pete’s World’s Yvonne.

Each season is comprised of three sets of four ~60 minute stories. The stories tell their own individual stories, but do all build to to overarching plot of the series.

So far we’ve had three seasons:

  • Aliens Among Us
  • God Among Us
  • Among Us

There’s also been a few other Torchwood Main Range stories that take place between Miracle Day and Aliens Among Us dealing with Torchwood being refounded, or during the ‘The Story Continues’ Era:

Torchwood being refounded:

  • Forgotten Lives
  • Visiting Hours
  • More Than This
  • Ghost Mission
  • Made You Look
  • We Always Get Out Alive
  • Night of the Fendahl
  • Smashed
  • Sonny
  • Driving Miss Wells
  • The Death of Captain Jack

During The Story Continues:

  • Sargasso
  • The Green Life
  • Red Base
  • The Red List
  • A Postcard from Mr Colchester
  • Death in Venice
  • Another Postcard from Mr Colchester
  • Sabotage
  • Thirst Trap (makes the most sense in the timeline here, but still not much)
  • Reflect
  • A Christmas Card from Mr Colchester

Have you listened to any of the sets? Which is your favourite?

Just started it (guessing that was an inspiration for this thread). I like the team much more than the TV show. The team is my main problem with s01-02, and this makes for a good change. I am about halfway through the 5 episodes. Just ahead of my Danish friend @BillFiler and a bit more ahead of my Finnish friend @MrColdStream.

Absolutely was, yeah

Is Love Rat 5 or 6?

Either way, I’m sorry about that one, it’s a low point of the series but I promise there’s nothing else that bad

I own all of the Ace ones but I’ve never got round to them. Are they worth it and do they need extra context?

I’ve not listened to Reflect yet, but as far as the other three go I’d say yes they’re worth it, and no they don’t need extra context.

There’s a few nods to The Story Continues, but not anything that’ll ruin your enjoyment for not knowing it. The monthly range is usually good to listen to without any context from other sets.

S5 and s6 for me were even more sexualized than the TV show, One, or Soho had ever been. S7 is definitely my favorite, with the most interesting story lines. But 5-6 were fun but kind of hindered by the focus on innuendos lol.

I mistakenly thought Jack would have a good, angsty story arc…but he just didn’t. That part kinda fell flat.

I like Tyler, Colin, Mr. Colchester…but the rest never stuck with me as heavily (not including established characters). I think ng and Orr could’ve done with better character work, cuz I still didn’t find either of them that interesting by s7. Which was a shame cuz ik fans who have these two as some of their favs.

In contrast I’ve only listened to Reflect, and I’d say it’s definitely worth it. That one’s really good, one of my favourite BF releases of 2024.

Okay just finished “Aliens Among Us - Volume 1”.
Overall I liked it :+1:

  • “Changes Everything” is a good introduction/reintroduction story for Torchwood Cardiff. 4/5 :star:
  • “Aliens & Sex & Chips & Gravy” felt a bit like a Torchwood S 1/2 romp-y adventure - in a good way. Probably my favourite of the first set. 4/5 :star:
  • “Orr” was a good introduction to a new interesting recurring character, but the story felt a bit lacking for me. 3/5 :star:
  • “Superiority Complex” felt a bit like a hodgepodge of a story with some good character moments interspersed. The whole thing with the sentient hotel felt a bit underwhelming 3/5 :star:

Mr. Colchester is the best thing to come out of these stories for me so far  Snarky yet emotional in just the right measures.

And I am intrigued about what is going on with Gwen

Jack is Jack. But that’s a positive in my book :+1:

Tyler is not really fleshed out enough as a character yet for me to have formed a proper opinion.

I want more Rhys going forward

And Bananaboat

Just watched Random Shoes.

Hate to say it, but that was awful. Absolutely awful.

I want to disagree, but I can’t. It’s not good…

After a batch of food episodes, it had to go wrong somewhere.

Out of Time next, which looks interesting, then Combat, one I’ve been looking forward to, and after that’s the two-part finale!

I would say that not all Torchwood stories are good to watch while eating food

Yay typo jokes :grin::grin::grin:

I find it funny that one of the ‘food’ episodes I was talking about was Countrycide…

I’ve only listened to S05, but I am looking forward to the rest (but I’m trying to do all of Big Finish’s Torchwood releases in release order, so I’ve got TW1:Machines and Deadbeat Escape before I get there.)
I thought that the series was quite good, if a little lacking in series plot developments at times (looking mostly at Escape Room here), and only had a couple of stories I found a struggle (Aliens & Sex & Chips & Gravy and Love Rat)

oh i loved escape room, despite being unconnected to the plot. series 6 is very much a continuation of series 5’s plot.

This era is so goooood I love it. I’ve been made aware of Big Finish thank some French news announcing Torchwood series 5.

I love the different series for different reasons, so I couldn’t say which one I prefer, but they’re all great! (special mention to series 7, which I didn’t like when I first listened to it, but now I love it since I relistened to it. It’s different, but good in its own way)

Also, regarding the Main Range, Sonny was a great surprise!
