Changes Everything - A Torchwood: The Story Continues thread

I’ve just listened to the first minute of “Love Rat” :eyes:

I mean, steady on :eyes:

To be fair, Countrycide was my go-to dinner episode for a while.

Just finished “Love Rat”.

It’s an almost too stereotypical callback to Torchwood Season 1 & 2.
I don’t see why this one should be considered any worse or better than the other stories so far in “Aliens Among Us” :person_shrugging:

A 3/5 :star: from me for this one.

I rate it lower for Jack being OOC. And I just feel bad for Tyler and Gwen. There’s no real follow-up to it, the story moves on before any exploration can be done. I’d rate it higher if it wasn’t as explicit, or if it at all came back to it.

I can’t think of any other story that’s as dark and explicit in its portrayal of SA, to the point of needlessness imo. I think the only other one which had me a bit shocked was the In The Shadows television sequence, John Hart abuses Ianto to the point of Stockholm syndrome, and broke his arm

I think Jack was completely in character - just hightened due to the circumstances of the plot.

“Everything Changes” and “Day One” are just as bad in my eyes.

I just think this was pretty standard early days Torchwood fare really.

I’d be inclined to agree with him being in character if he brought it up later. In a mature and decent way.

In my head this just isn’t the same character as how we see him in “Hostile Environment” or “Another Man’s Shoes”. And I don’t just mean because of the main alien of the episode, I also mean his response to it.

You bring up two audio stories I haven’t reached yet here :slightly_smiling_face:
My frame of reference concerning Captain Jack is only to TV Torchwood

Even then, look at how he treats Tosh and Mary (which I’d agree is in character with Love Rat), but then look at the following scene where him and Tosh are looking over the Bay/on the rooftop. With Love Rat, we don’t get that moment.

But, in fairness, it makes the end of The Empty Hand all the more great.

No spoilers tho

I am completely with you on this. It was just a normal TW episode. I was expecting worse. 3/5

Listened to “A Kill to a View” this morning.

This was a good one.
Mr. Colchester’s time to shine
Halfway through Aliens Among Us - Mr. Colchester is definitely the best thing about this series, and it’s not even close!

But, when it comes down to it, I have never been that much a fan of Bilis Manger. He’s a bit too “mystery character just for the sake of it” for my taste. He’s delightfully creepy in the execution though

No spoilers please, but does the unresolved stuff from Miracle Day get addressed at all at some point?

S4 is vaguely mentioned but not addressed. They don’t have the rights to MD, and everything.

Okay. That’s a bit disappointing…

I liked that the Ice Maiden crew from the comics got a mention in the first box-set though :slightly_smiling_face:

Just finished “Zero Hour”.

Tyler is a bit of a twat - definitely Torchwood material  But did we really need another innuendo machine?

The story wasn’t that special - Eeeeeevil delivery service. Kind of stale commentary on modern day capitalism. Yes it’s a commentary on Amazon I get it already :wink:
2/5 :star: - it was a bit dull

I wish the plot about what’s happening with Gwen would get a shift on now…

On to story #8 “The Empty Hand”

iirc the whole plotline was devised due to the lack of eve myles’ availability. it does develop, and i do like the pay off, but you’ll wait a while for some of it.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH i can’t wait for this reaction!!!

Just finished “Aliens Among Us - Volume 2”
I’m barrelling through them at this point

  • “Love Rat” is a standard season 1/2 style horny Torchwood story. 3/5 :star:
  • “A Kill to a View”. Amazing title  Mr. Colchester is fantastic! (I am so looking forward to the stories with him and Ace!) 4/5 :star: I would say this was the best of these four for me.
  • “Zero Hour”. A bit of a dull critique of modern warehouse/assembly line systems. Not much more to it than that really. 2/5 :star:
  • “The Empty Hand” was good. PC Andy was great on audio. The scenes with him and Rhys was the highlight of this story :+1: Otherwise fairly standard Torchwood story. Oh Yvonne is back now? I wonder how that happened. Never been a big fan of that character but I am excited to see where this is going :slightly_smiling_face: 3,5/5 :star:

“Aliens Among Us” seems to go much more for the style of the two first seasons of Torchwood rather than the serialised seasons. I am enjoying it so far. Give all the stories to Mr. Colchester!

Great, now I have “A View to a Kill” by Duran Duran stuck in my head…
