Catified Doctor Who Characters

You may remember Torchwood Cats. I recently decided to start doing some cat drawings based on other Whoniverse characters. Instead of continuously asking in What Should You Watch/Read/Listen To Next? and posting my artwork there, I decided to make a dedicated thread.

Here are the first four Classic companions to be catified!

I decided to make Ace blue after all, but I couldn’t help myself and had to spice up her design a little with the smoke.

Leela always struck me as a black spotted tabby with very high rufousing. She’s my favourite of this batch, and possibly my favourite cat I’ve drawn to date.

The Romanas had to have some things in common. They’re both dilute (blue being black dilute, cream being red dilute), and both are silver tabbies. This is where the similarities end, however, with One being a longhaired, black-based, pointed cat, and Two being a shorthaired, red-based, full-coloured cat. I hope I can keep both the similarities and differences going for Romana III, when I eventually feel familiar enough with her to draw her.

But now I’m done with the first four companions I wanted to draw, so I’m open to suggestions! I think I’ll probably do Sarah Jane Smith next, and maybe start on some Doctors, but I want to hear what you all want to see.

I would love to see Nardole, Nyssa, and Twelve cats, but I’ll just go for Thirteen.

Cats and Doctor Who…. my two favourite things. amazing work <3

Thoughts and suggestions that I’ll edit/update as I think of them:

Turlough - oriental shorthair with an orange/red coat, not sure what kind of pattern

Nyssa - solid blue with blue eyes

Twelve - grey with a Rex type curly coat

Donna - long haired red classic tabby

All of the above?

Obviously Nyssa and I will brook no argument.

I don’t generally do specific breeds. I might model the look of the cat after a specific breed, but they’re generally all domestic/randombred cats, unless I have a very good reason to use a specific breed.

Red would be the obvious choice for Turlough, of course. I think ticked would be a good pattern, maybe going the full yard for agouti. (Ticked means no dark markings like strips or spots, agouti is used in specific breeds to mean the cat doesn’t even have the distinct stripes on the legs or tail.)

I was actually thinking of making her a black tabby, but now I’m considering some more unusual options. What do you think of bimetallic?

I’m definitely going blue smoke for Twelve, though a much lighter tone than what I gave Ace.

I was going to make her a shorthaired solid red, possibly a tortoiseshell though probably not.

I appreciate your input! I might start asking in this thread if I have trouble picking between colours, but generally I have a pretty good idea of where I want to take certain characters.

Cat Turlough should be pushing the TARDIS off a shelf or table or something… :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh yeah I only specified a breed for turlough bc of how they look slightly alien and disgruntled, much like turlough

Ït does look like Turlough

Nyssa could be a Trakenite breed of cat, with a pattern resembling her original outfit.

These are taking a back seat while I finish up a commission, but hopefully I’ll be able to do some more this weekend.
