A place to discuss what browsers we all use!

I hate Edge! (Is that another controversial opinion to add to my list?)

Yeah, I’d never use it on my personal gadgets. I’m only using it at work because that’s what we’re told to do.

But it has nice pictures!

(I just got used to Edge… Really need to get another browser)

That is as controversial as saying that you like Doctor Who on this forum.

Just remember there are lots of browser alternatives, just they are usually also Firefox or Chrome. (Edge is Chrome.)

When Firefox updated their privacy agreements, I moved over to Floorp.

Also, I actually jailbroke my Kindle Paperwhite last night. It was pretty easy. It’s now got a free ebook reader on it (with a different UI) that handles non-Amazon book formats, so I can just plunk epubs on there are read them directly.

Shame it has so little storage space. If it had more, I could put Alpine Linux on it, but this is kinda a bottom of the line one…

I went to Firefox years ago when a friend recommended it as a better alternative than IE or Chrome. But I keep hearing that it’s losing it’s appeal. I’ll give this Floorp a try.

Tired of Edge? Fed up with Firefox? Well, thanks to today’s sponsor Opera GX

Yeah, I’ve heard about that one too.

My runner up for ones I was trying was Zen Browser, but I was running into some bugs that were giving me trouble. It’s updated several times since then, and most people don’t use multi-account containers, though, and they’ve got some interesting ideas, so potentially one to check out as well, if you want something a little different.

They do the whole “tabs on a side bar” thing.

I use the Arc browser and think that it does some interesting things.

Does it talk to you? Tap dance? Achieve world peace?

Yes

I remember seeing that the company that does Arc were working on a new AI browser to replace Arc and that they weren’t really focusing on Arc any more. Haven’t really looked too far into it, though…

They have put some AI features in ARC but that might be the case.

That’s Arc Search, it’s available on the Apple App Store.

It “browses for you” with AI to answer your questions.

I had a look but this is not what I think the future of the web should be.

(For anyone curious, I use Safari as my main daily browser, use a combination of Safari and Chrome when developing, and Arc when adding spreadsheets to the site because the sidebar tabs are useful)

I hear that Safari has become better but I have not used it in like 10 years.

I really agree with this. This is one of the main things I like about it. I use Chrome as my main browser on my iPhone.

Google are an advertising company who’s sole mission is to find out as much about you as they can and sell it to the highest bidder.

They’ve been caught out doing really scummy things like deliberately bypassing ad blockers and even tracking you while in Incognito mode.

I avoid all Google products for anything personal, they are just creepy.

I’ve kinda just stopped caring. I also use Chrome. I’ve been using Google products for years and by this time they know everything about me (not that my life is very interesting anyways) so there’s not much point to avoid them now.

That being said, I’ll happily switch to a better browser if I get the opportunity.
