Big Finish General Discussion

This works purely because of the nature of the Time War imo

Even so still not to my taste. Would’ve preferred an original character.

And the arc isn’t over yet, so I’m waiting to see how it pans out.

Plus even in the scope of the Time War it makes the universe feel smaller. Plus they already did something similar with Bliss.

I think it adds even more tragedy to Night of the Doctor too, upon rewatch!

Don’t know Lucie and can’t answer to that.

I liked the first part of the solution to this. That now that she had Rose she had shared it and she could handle it. I just wish that the second part with letting it go would have been better.

In this specific case I think the tragedy should be that’s just somebody the Doctor never met. Even to us. That’s what I mean when I say it misses the point of Cass.

Exactly, she’s only ever been a placeholder. I’m hoping for Faye on audio finally

I don’t feel like that is such big of a problem and I would say that as a whole that they have done that too. Rose is still in a parallel world. Amy and Rory are stuck in the past for example.

But they’re not dead-dead.

I meant that more of an overuse of “dead, but fine” trope. And all of them work fine enough on their own, don’t get me wrong, but a The Daleks’ Masterplan is long overdue.

(I was gonna say an Earthshock. But we never even had a Masterplan in New Who)

I don’t feel like they have to be to become sad. We could get that and it would be interesting but I don’t think that is a problem that they don’t do that.

If anything I think that we have too few happy exits like Ian and Barbara.

Imo, it’s getting to a point where the only dead characters are Torchwood characters

I love a bit of high-stakes drama but I also don’t want my favourite characters to be totally written off, especially now that Big Finish could get them back and then write 100 more stories with them.

So I am 100% fine with the whole “dead but not dead” angle they’ve been doing, because it lets me have my cake and eat it

I understand not everyone feels the same way.

But imagine if (Torchwood: Children of Earth spoiler) Ianto hadn’t died, he is sooo huge in Big Finish but restricted to stories from the past. He could have been a main character in The Story Continues. I don’t want them to undo it because it was sad and beautiful, but imagine the possibilities.

any chance of Ianto coming back was demolished by a nuclear strike as soon as that shrine became a public tourist attraction

They NEED to do EDA adaptations! That would solve all the problems in the world!

Or Alien Bodies? How would you do the Shift on audio? :joy:

Alien Bodies might be difficult because of rights stuff

Some EDAs would work better on audio than others. Out of my favourite EDAs, I think the more experimental ones, like Alien Bodies or Unnatural History, and the ones that utilise the prose form in a unique way, like Interference and The Adventuress of Henrietta Street, would be hard to pull off in a different medium. But there are ones that are just amazing stories, like Vampire Science, The Year of Intelligent Tigers, or The Turing Test, that I’d kill for a BF adaptation of. Having voice actors, and even perhaps visuals on the cover, for characters like Sam and Anji, and hearing Paul McGann act in some of 8’s best stories, would be insanely exciting.
