Author Talk: Tim Foley

With the Release of ‘Hooklight 2’ being close. And him writing the Opener for the new 9DA Series, as well as the 13DA Series, I thought what better time than to give our first Audio only Author his very own Author Talk: Tim Foley!

An Author who started with Torchwood Audios and continue to write for plenty of Spin-offs before getting the Keys to write for plenty of Doctor Ranges. Most prominently is his Work on the 5DAs, which are beloved as many and acclaimed as some of the best Big Finish Stories in recent History.

Over the Time he had the Pleasure to work on plenty of Doctors. Most famously the fifth, but looking at the Story count, he actually wrote the most amount of Stories with a Doctor for the eighth!

What are people’s opinion on his Work? Have you listened to his Spin-Off Work outside the Torchwood Audios? What’s your favorite Torchwood Audio of his? And your favorite 5DA that he wrote? In general, feel free to discuss any of your favorite or least favorite of his Work here!

First thing I’ll give Tim credit for is penning the first story that actually made me care about Peladon in The Truth Of Peladon. Normally, the locale does not interest me in the slightest, and most stories set there just slide off my brain… but making a V For Vendetta flip with Eighth as V is a sure-fire way to grab my attention.

I haven’t heard a lot of his work just yet (still need to get around to the Torchwood audios), but he seems to be getting stronger and stronger as he goes. The Dread Of Night, The Empty Man, The Auton Infinity, The Merfolk Murders; I probably won’t get to Hooklight any time soon, but I’m genuinely hyped for it because the man does really damn well with Fifth.

Tha House That Wasn’t Haunted is sooo good :star_struck:

Oh wait, you meant his DW audios? Ok…

As everyone else, I do generally think he’s fantastic. Soldier Obscura is great, his contributions to River and Benny are generally fab, and I loved his episode of The Robots. I think the Foley hype is real!

Tim Foley wrote Rhys and Ianto’s Excellent Barbecue and the Morbius trilogy, not to mention Hooklight, so he’s definitely alright in my books

Excellent writer :star_struck: I’ve loved his work in almost every range I can think of. Friend of the Family especially was exceptional.

And his recent two-person play Driftwood is absolutely fantastic! I’ve seen it twice on two separate tours and it made me cry both times <3

Just checked and I’ve heard 60 out of his 72 stories, and looking at my ratings it confirms what I already thought: he’s a phenomenal writer.

His Torchwood stuff is really great, especially in Series 5-7. Also, how can I not mention Friend of the Family…

Silver Medal from the Martha series :sob: I really didn’t vibe with the series as a whole, at all.

Foley has really come into his own recently, it seems like every few years a new writer comes along to take the crown of best EU writer.

Goss took it from Shearman, Dorney took it from Goss and now Foley has taken it from Dorney

James Goss is still knocking it out of the park for me, but he’s mostly working in spinoff ranges.

(Paul Magrs is still my favourite  )

Love to see all the Love for Foley, I must admit! And I also have a Confession to make out of the 70 or so Foley Stories, I only listened to 13 so far :face_with_peeking_eye: and one of which is the Silver Medal :sob: (I Agree with Jamie it’s really not good at all, in general the whole Martha Set just wasn’t). He did some exciting work outside of it, and I am really looking forward to getting to his 5DAs Work! I am sure it will incredible :star_struck:

I didn’t realize that Foley wrote Tropical Beach Sounds. That was one of the two Torchwood audios that I’ve listened to.
