Author Talk: Tim Foley

The Rockery, Tropical Beach Sounds, Cuckoo, Poker Face, I would say Foley is the peak of Torchwood writers, but James Goss exists

A very close second though

Goss, Foley and Lidster are the holy trinity of Torchwood writers for me

And Guy Adams as a close #4!

Yeah he’s my #1 active writer

Foley’s an incredible talent and I can’t wait for him to get the opportunity to really make a range his own like Alfie Shaw did with 11DC’s.

What about Ash Darby? Art Decadence was excellent

They also wrote SUV…which ranks rather low..

(I thought it was alright, but I think (theory) they wanted Burn Gorman with Naoko Mori, and couldn’t get him, so turned it into a Ianto & Tosh one instead)

Do we actually know if they’re real, Ash Darby is an anagram of A Shy Bard after all

Mentioned before but there’s a theory it’s multiple writers too.

Or a name for stories which had to be changed to the point the author disowned them

I’ve seen the theory that it’s RTD, or that Art Decadence Ash Darby was RTD

I saw somewhere that someone thought Hostile Environment was written by RTD. I haven’t heard it so have no idea, but Art Decadence didn’t feel like RTD at all to me.

As much as I pove Tim Foley’s scripts Im glad hes planning to take some time off Doctor Who.

He’s one of Big Finish’s strongest writters and I don’t want them to drain him of every story possible asap.

It sounds as if Big Finish have plenty of his scripts “in the bank” and already recorded though, so we won’t see a gap for a while. I’m torn, because I agree I don’t want him getting worn out, but he’s also probably become one of my all-time favourite DW writers recently, so I would love for him to keep writing for Big Finish well into the future!

I’m intrigued by the Fourth Doctor bits he mentions - I haven’t listened to anything from the 4DAs since series 10 a few years ago, so I would love to be tempted back to that range.

The two he mentions are The Ghost of Margaret which is the last story of Series 12, and Cry of the Banshees which is in the newest set (the middle of Series 14).

He implies there’s more to come from him in this range:

“You may have already heard my second story, THE GHOST OF MARGARET… but let me tease and say there’s plenty more to come from me and the Fourth Doctor.”

Personally, I would love to see a boxset from him with Four - I know Tim has said on multiple occasions he prefers doing longer stories, and I think that’s where he really shines as a writer.

Totally. I just listed where the two he mentioned by name that have been release can be found.

Ah, sorry - my mistake. I haven’t heard either of these, so I appreciate you highlighting them :slightly_smiling_face:

The House That Wasn’t Haunted. Y’all should listen to the omega factor just for that. Incredible. Tense, scary, amazing characters.
