Audio Club Extra: Gallifrey 2.3 - Pandora

Yeah, that’s a really good point: Season 2 is really where the writers figure out how Leela fits into things. She’s always been a complex character, but you really start to see more of that this season.

It’s a shame that that drops off in s3 lmao… s2 does do good for Leela, especially in the episodes coming up. Did everyone know I love her?

If you don’t love Leela, I don’t trust you.

I was expecting this to be more gruesome than it ended up being. But maybe the impact was lessened because I was working on something at the same time. In any case, I really felt and enjoyed the political scheming in this one more. And I am looking forward to continuing the series and seeing how things play out.

My god that was brilliant

Pandora - 9/10 (Spoilers)

And now I’m HOOKED.

I’ve said before that my biggest frustration with series one of Gallifrey was the lack of politicking going on, there were schemes and mysteries, sure, but it felt a little more espionage thriller than political thriller. The first couple stories on this set were a delight, but also took us away from the main locations of politics within the series. It wasn’t really there, but it also didn’t feel missing because there wasn’t much chance to put it anywhere.

This story brings it in in full force and I absolutely adore it for that.

Romana is clearly shown to be out of her depth with the politics going on here. Brax has more experience, but his ambition is also his downfall and him leaving at the end leaves the floodgates open for more terrible things to happen to Romana and Leela. Narvin and Wynter’s rivalry was done brilliantly, and reminded me of how much I was enjoying Wynter here and how much he fitted in to the jigsaw of Gallifrey, making his fate here all the more shocking, and even realising it just before it happened, it was horrifying to hear. Leela is great, serving almost as an audience surrogate here which I really liked. And Darkel…

Darkel is just perfect.

Her scheming and experience makes her the perfect antagonist for this series, and she’s just so competent. I despise her immensely and I adore how much I do, just spectacular.

The scene with Andred and Leela as well is just great, she loves her but she can’t let go what he’s done, and it just feels so real, and with where him and Darkel end up at the end of the story, I just can’t wait for more.

I’m sorely tempted to jump ahead of the club and start binging through it!

I’ve already listened to the whole series (well, I didn’t end up listening to Enemy Lines) so I’m perfectly happy just going week by week.

I also listened to it today, and like @JayPea, I consider myself in love with Romana, Leela and the other silly buggers we meet here (well, not Darkel!). I’m hooked to the point where I’m tempted to drop everything else in life just to binge everything here and now because I need to know what happens!

Anyway.

Spirit was slightly stronger for me, though I love the return to political scheming in this one - and I’m finally beginning to distinguish between Narvin, Brax, Wynter, Andred and the others. So happy to hear Darkel get an extended part, even if it is a villainous one. The Broken Man reveal was a genuine shock that made me gasp, and listening to the recording of Wynter was difficult - I had grown to like the guy!

Also, following the season’s central plot threads of Pandora, Leela/Andred and Romana’s struggles develop is much more rewarding than in Season 1.

It was a bit harder to follow in the last leg, so I’ll give it a strong 8/10.

I have to say, while I am also sorely tempted to binge through this series (it’s just so good!), I don’t think I would have enjoyed this episode in particular so much if I hadn’t waited. Waiting meant I had two whole weeks with Wynter alive, being aware of this new character and his potential, growing to appreciate him. And now I have a whole week to be heartbroken over his fate! (I still am. Very much. It’s just so sad) Had I just listened to all of this season in one go, not only would I have way less time for the characters to grow on me, to speculate and analyze. And I think many plot twists wouldn’t actually hit that hard if I overwrote them with the next twist immediately after.

All that to say, why isn’t it Friday again yet, I want more gallifrey!!

Well, I never explicitly said that I love Narvin

But okay then, you don’t have to eat your hat

I have great news for you about Gallifrey loving to leave you hanging on a cliffhanger :stuck_out_tongue: even now, I’m waiting waiting waiting for War Room 3 to give me some peace…

if that does not descrive Narvin then I do not know what does! I love to watch it happening, and it is! You lot are all in the Narvin lover pipeline!!!

I have seriously no idea how you’re doing that, it must be agonizing

Dying on the inside tbh. The worst one since I started listening to them on release was Time War 3. That cliffhanger was agony

Fortunately I wasn’t listening live then, but that cliffhanger… and not knowing that there ever would be more… yes I imagine that sucked

Just finished this! My second attempt because I tried to listen last night but was too sleepy!

I need to go to bed now so will write more tomorrow maybe but yeah I loved it!

I did figure out the reveal before it happened. But yeah that was very sad.

Night!
