I got plenty of things to say about “Spirit”, but I will sit and wait patiently for @sircarolyn to wax lyrical
All I’ll say at the moment is that Spirit is what caused me to shift from “this series is fun” to “I love this series.”
Has @sircarolyn hacked the ratings?
Okay this was an excellent one.
Ward and Jameson are both amazing actors. The writing is brilliant. The “mind swap” or whatever you want to call it was a great way to bring them together and help them see eye to eye. I thought they both “impersonated” each other in a really good way.
I also thoroughly enjoyed Romana’s lecture on Natural Selection - having been in her position having to explain it so someone many times - and it is especially funny as she was married to Richard Dawkins at the time (I used to really idolise him, but he’s been a bit problematic since).
I must admit I wasn’t sure what to expect here, @sircarolyn has hyped this up to the max, so I was kind of expecting something epic, not really just a two-hander. But yes it was brilliant. I hope the rest of the series carries on exploring their friendship.
But why is it tagged LGBTQA+? Is there something going on that I haven’t quite picked up on here?
9/10
Yeah, this one’s good, I will admit.
Ward and Jameson lend themselves to a heavy two-hander that stuns throughout with a great setting, atmosphere and dialogue.
I have a couple nitpicks but I do think this is the best of Gallifrey so far and the first time I’ve connected with the characters enough to enjoy a story based off their presence alone.

This was excellent. Love little body horror elements in this one. Definently the best episode of Gallifrey I listened to thus far. This just hits all the right spots for me! @sircarolyn wasn’t lying! Deserved 10/10 from me
I adore this. I love Leela and I love Romana and this episode is basically a love letter to them both. I will not be over this ever. They are so absolutely wonderful, Lalla Ward and Louise Jameson are amazing actresses and it really, really shows here.
I took notes during listening again
This is my favourite Gallifrey episode <3 <3 will have more thoughts when I catch up with the club!!
I wake up and check the forum and four people have @'ed me!! Must be Spirit day
It’s joint three actually with Disassembled (brilliant) and Unity (bad but god does it compel me)
I may or may not have things to say…
I don’t think it should be tagged thus because obviously that’s not canon. But I really really struggle to interpret ‘everything here will be devoted to our pleasure’ in a different way… Sorry that I keep hyping this up to such a degree but you have to admit that this one rocks. It’s fun and it’s all about them, the absolute heart and soul of this series
Oh boy if you like body horror then next week will be for you… which reminds me @deltaandthebannermen do you think we should maybe forewarn people that it gets a little gory? Pandora sure is full of Sounds…
Happy Spirit Day! @sircarolyn
There are definitive episodes in any worthwhile series. I maintain that A Blind Eye is definitive for Gallifrey S1. Even moreso Spirit for S2. It’s one of those wonderful episodes that is clever by dint of not trying to be too clever. It knows just how much to fit in and allows ample space for our two wonderful leads to shine. Shine they do. Radiant performances, then, but also a genuinely intriguing puzzle in the broken man.
So pleased to see that people are enjoying this one. Sometimes things coalesce to make something just that little bit special. Spirit is just such a case. Special.
Also, is it just me? I could listen to Romana and Leela holidaying together for an age. No plot necessary. They’re just such a delight to spend time with.
I wish they could be on holiday forever no more bad things to happen to them ever please!!!
This was the best one yet. It is still not my favourite series but it was fun. It could be a bit preachy sometimes with the whole we solved the problem because we believe in different things. But as a whole a good episode. 4/5
YYEAH YOU COULD SAY THAT
hehe yeah… it never gets better to listen to. Poor guy…
Okay, consider me excited!
I don’t actually remember what happens next.
We discover what happened to the broken man and who he is… in probably more detail than necessary aha
