I’m just writing a short post to introduce myself (and so that I can post quotes on the main site! :D). I grew up watching the modern series, as I’m sure many others in the UK did, but I didn’t really fall in love with the show until I binged it on Netflix at about age nine? I so vividly remember watching The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances and telling my best friend how scary it was the next day at school. Series 8 would have been airing at the time, but from that point on, Nine was my Doctor.
I was a casual fan, really, up until maybe 2021 when I got more into the fandom via YouTube, and my interest sort of snowballed from there. I discovered Big Finish a couple of years later, starting with the 8th Doctor as is often recommended, and he quickly became my new favourite. The TV Movie was actually the first classic story I saw, just catching it on TV at some point, so maybe McGann was seared into my brain. Those early Main Range stories from Storm Warning - The Girl Who Never Was are my absolute favourite run of Doctor Who, good parts and bad.
It’s so hard to narrow it down to only a few, but some of my favourite stories are:
Scherzo
Human Nature/The Family of Blood
The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances
Albie’s Angels
(Super original list, I know!)
For the amount of time I spend thinking about Doctor Who, I haven’t seen nearly enough of the classic series, but some of my favourites are The Curse of Peladon, The Three Doctors, Silver Nemesis and Battlefield.
(I’ve only seen seasons 7-10 and 24-26)
I recently moved from the Timescales as it wasn’t as active as I’d like, so I’m hoping to meet some lovely new people here!
I loved Battlefield, too. I don’t see that one getting mentioned a lot and when it is opinions are mixed (Aaronovitch himself didn’t like it) but I thought the legend/myth sci-fi tie-ins with the Doctor/Merlin were cool. The Cartmel influences were strong with that one and as a whole Series 26 was golden.
Greetings and Salutations, Jess! Welcome to the forum; may your Whovian odyssey take you to the strangest and most beautifully fragile realms of imagination!
P.S. Thank you for sharing your amazing journey with us; we’re glad you’re here!
