Been a bit late with it but finally got around to write my Short Story for the Fanfic Collection from @The9thCyberLegion (Thread about it here: Would anyone be interested in a Fanfic collection?)
Not sure if it’s any good, but I tried my best with it! Hope everybody enjoys it regardless, apology for any grammatical errors in advance
A Memory from the Future
Mayor B speaking here, reporting from the Observations we made on the Planet known as “Kembel”, rumors said that the Planet is still haunted by the Ghosts of the ones, who have died… Funny thing is I investigate it recently, and I can say with Confidence it is not, it’s much worse… But where are my Manners? Where do I even begin? It all began, when I heard those Rumors, long ago. We all known about the Travesty the Daleks have made out of this Place, for a long Time it was impossible for it to be inhabited at all. And who can blame this? This Place felt haunted by the ones, who stayed or came, no wonder why there was a Policy against visiting it, thankfully I never cared much for those stupid Rules! So I visited it, of course. The first five Days went about uneventful, effects from this Dalek Machine they used here couldn’t be felt, as reported, it only became dangerously when I heard those Noises of this strange machine. A Box.
The Doctor was walking through the control room, smiling to himself. “Ah, ah, I wonder…”, he said out loud to himself, meanwhile Susan was looking at him. “Where did we land, Grandfather?”, she asked with a Sense of Curiosity, the Doctor smiled at her. “Ah Child, I don’t know, seems to be quite a Mess of a Planet, yes hmm…” “Oh Grandfather, I think it looks rather beautiful. All the green! Like the Amazonas Jungle!”, she said in awe, the Doctor just raised his eyebrows towards her. “Child are you quite alright? There is no green at all, just sandy dust, I would assume!”, he said in a rather condescending voice. “Now, now, shall we explore?”, he asked with his usual grin and a twinkle in his eyes, Susan nodded quickly and they went outside.
This so-called “Doctor”, a Myth for my Colony, was a rather old Man, not a youthful blonde or walking rainbow or even a Victorian Gentleman, no just an old Man. His dress sense was very much what my Great Grandmother would call as “Retro”. But he was not alone, he had company, a black haired young Girl, well… at least I assumed she was “young”, frankly I don’t know how old she is, she might be 14 or 178. Those two Visitors would quickly find me and of course as typical, I threaten them with my Weapon and the old Man shouted, “How dare you, young man, don’t you know I am good at Venusian Whatever”, he shouted at me. Of course quickly we would come to an agreement, even if I didn’t like this one, after all this old gremlin kept being a grumpy jerk towards me, meanwhile he giggled like a little Child with his Grandfather. I am getting off track, as I mention we had an agreement, I explained I heard rumors of this Planet being haunted by Ghost, of course the Girl laughed at me and said something along the line “Of course, there are Ghosts! But they aren’t evil” or something like that, meanwhile the elderly Man just dismissed my Tell, but told me he and the Girl were trying to explore this Planet. Odd really, why would anybody explore Kembel, I say, while doing exactly the same. I am such a hypocrite.
The Night has hit, and they agreed to continue their Exploration, but for now all of them needed some Sleep, especially Susan. The Doctor opened the Tardis Door for her and let her get some rest, he promised he would go to Bed as well, but he lied. “Now now…”, he muttered to himself before popping his Key into his pockets, “Let’s explore!”. The Doctor would go around looking for something exciting, he didn’t find something for almost an Hour, and yet he continued in Hope, despite his seemingly “older Age”, he had so much Energy in himself left. But then he saw it, something blinking in a red-sort of Light “Oh my giggy!”, he smiled to himself and went closer to it, but before he could see properly what it was, he heard loud shouting from somewhere, it sounded like some sort of Human or at least a Humanoid. As typical the Doctor ignored it and looked at it again, but it was gone, “Oh why… why… eh-eh why does this happen to me every time?!”, he asked with fury in his eyes. “Well, well, time for Bed.”
I didn’t trust this old Man or this young girl, there was something otherworldly about them, and certainly not in the best way. I wondered how long it would take for them to leave, or for me to finish them. As they both woke up, I saw this blue box for myself, looked a bit odd, it does miss some color, I wonder if they ever got some color for it. I tried to start the Conversation with this young Girl, finding out more about them, with less than any luck, I am afraid she didn’t say much only rambled about some of their Adventures. And every time she started to talk about her Home, the Doctor just looked at her with anger and she stopped. I felt sorry for her, but at least he smiled at her after that and even talked with her, telling her jokes? Stories? I am not sure, I didn’t get any of the terms used there, almost as if they were from a far away world.
“Stop there!”, the Doctor said waving his Companions to the Way where he saw it, they followed quickly. “Now now, do any of you two see it, eh?”, he asked, waiting for a Response. “A Emerald!”, Susan said with excitement, Mayor B just scratched his Head, as if he couldn’t see it or maybe didn’t want to. “I don’t see anything!” “Can’t you? How very interesting ehh young… what pronouns do you go by?” “‘He’ works just fine”, Mayor B replied, the Doctor smiled. “So you can’t see it this ehh green Emerald, eh?” “If I could, I would say something about it, wouldn’t I?” “Hmm how very true”, the Doctor said. “Grandfather do you think this might be something only our people can see?”, Susan asked, the Doctor considered but didn’t got an Answer. “I am not sure, my dear, I wouldn’t hope so, no, dear me no!” “But why not, didn’t we plan to go Home someday?”, but before the Doctor could reply, Mayor B asked with confusion “Not very human, are you?” “Oh what made you think this, eh?”, the old Man said in a fairly snarky voice. “Very well…”, Mayor B sighed out loud.
I didn’t know what has happened exactly next, it was quite the Chaos really. Susan decided to take one of those “Emeralds”, the Doctor shouted to not do it to her, almost as if he could feel something bad would happen, and something bad happened indeed. In a split second, I couldn’t feel my Legs, my Arms, my Eyes, my Eyes were not there for a Moment and then came back! I could feel as if I was turning into a Baby to a Teenager to a baby again and an old baby again and a young old Man again. I remember the Doctor was not there when it happened, almost as if he was immune about it somehow, or perhaps he was trapped somewhere else, in another Time. Furthermore, I could feel I was in the past, seeing the first of Mankind and at the End of Earth at the same time. I remember… llacer t’nod I oN. Sorry… Not sure why, I still feel the side effects, but this experience taught me one thing. One very important thing, Kembel wasn’t haunted by the Ghost of the Victims, but from something far worse. Maybe Time itself, maybe this Place is the Place where Time decided to cause Mayhem, maybe it’s the Place where there is all the Time and no Time. I wouldn’t know, and perhaps I may never know it, because I am part of it. And always will be. Part of this Time Chaos of this… Time War.
Susan felt uneasy about it, she sat down on the Tardis Chair for a while looking down, she didn’t talk, it all happened in the Sudden. In a blink of a Moment, this Mayor B was aging, deaging and aging into something more than they shouldn’t suppose to, the Doctor themselves was also not sure what he could say at the Moment. All the Doctor could do is to warn Susan to stop looking at it, he felt guilty of it, for leaving Mayor B alone with what ever is happening to him, but he couldn’t do anything. Nothing at all. All he knew was to keep Susan safe and well she was safe now, but at what cost? “Hmm… I am sorry, my dear”, the Doctor broke the Silence, Susan looked at him. “Why are you sorry?” “Well, I couldn’t save him, could I?”, he sighed out loud. “I suppose, but was there anything you or me could do, Grandfather? You know Time is stronger than even us, our people. Don’t blame yourself, Grandfather, if anything I should be blamed, after all I picked it up…”, she said, feeling guilty of what has happened. “My dear, you didn’t know, and you didn’t mean any harm, now, did you? You shouldn’t blame yourself, my dear Susan”, he said while giving her a smile to reassure her, before they landed somewhere else.
