Me and my bestie actually started watching SJA recently! For her it’s the very first time, for me I only saw the first two seasons when I was 10 or something-

It’s fresh air honestly after all those crazy Doctor Who stories we listen to. Sometimes you need these more calmer stories too. We are going to watch Eye of the Gorgon today!

Invasion of the Bane

I watched the first episode. I’ll put up my review later, but some initial thoughts for now. Or, to quote my new favourite character:

Is that good or bad?

I was worried going in that this would be very childish, but I was delighted to find it quite close in tone to DW. Fun, lighthearted, exciting, tense. It developed the premise well, introduced the characters effectively, and contained many hooks that kept me engaged. The children are unusually natural. I found Maria pretty likeable and instantly started liking Luke. And I didn’t know that he wasn’t a normal human, so he was both intriguing and funny. Sarah Jane is perfect, of course.

Oh, and Samantha Bond, my Miss Moneypenny! She’s a perfectly campy but good villain. Loved the Bane—great designs, effective concept. And how does this look so good? It’s just a spin-off!

Also, not too many forced references to DW. It stands well on its own. And the fact that it takes a slightly different approach to defeating alien threats.

The K9 thing was weird.

And they ended with a bang; that was exciting!

Overall, it was a really strong opener, and I can’t wait to watch more!

I still mimic Luke’s “is that good or bad?” sometimes and have done so since I was a kid. It’s great when you want someone to be direct with you

SJA is truly phenomenal and I’m not just saying that - it can be silly but it rarely feels too ‘kiddie’ and it doesn’t talk down to its audience especially as it goes on

IIRC they didn’t have the rights to use him much, but that may change later…

Yes, that’s what I read on the wiki as well. Bob Baker was planning to launch a K9 spin-off. I wonder if anything ever came of that…

Luke is the most autistic character to ever exist lmao

Here’s my review of the first episode; please read and like it if you feel like it

A well-crafted introduction to The Sarah Jane Adventures, Invasion of the Bane is never childish but always engaging. With a strong cast, solid production values, and a mix of action, humour, and heart, it sets up the series beautifully while delivering an entertaining adventure in its own right.

If you thought that was good, the rest of the show maintains that level of quality, and goes above it!

Well, that’s great to hear! I’m excited to carry on! Tomorrow in fact
