William Shakespeare

My English teacher last year put me off Shakespeare entirely so…

So you’d say that your tide on Shakespeare was turned like a tempest losing the love’s labour in a midsummer night’s dream?

I guess.

Nope. It was only a passing reference (reciting a quote).

I can’t really comment on Shakespeare’s Play, since I neither read nor saw one of them performed, sadly. In general my Knowledge and Experience with Shakespeare’s Work is limited bar some Film Adaptions of his iconic Plays. It’s certainly something I should try and really get into it, but I am not sure if I don’t feel intimidated by it :sob:

As far as Stories goes with Shakespearian Influence goes, I actually read a good chunk of those (probably since most of it are from one singular Book), going through them in Order quickly:
I thought Nightdreamers was pretty weak, I don’t even recall all that much from it ever after reading it only a Month or so ago :sob:.
The Time of the Daleks, while a funny Idea on Paper, is extremely weak and just a disappointment with only a few redeeming Qualities (on top of them being just a weaker Version of Evil).
The Kingmaker is easily my favorite out of all them. Clever, witty, funny and it has somebody playing a Key figure who sounds very much like Eccelston to me :sob:! What’s not to love? Brilliant Audio play!
I really don’t like The Shakespeare Code, as a Story it doesn’t do much for me. Sure the Production Value is great, but really it’s never one that does much for me and is a Low point in the Revival easily.
The Shakespeare Notebook is a bit of a mixed Bag. While mostly decent-solid, I will say it has some Highlights, Stories which I actually enjoyed, include the following:
The True Tragedie of Macbeth
The Dream
The True and most excellent Comedie of Romeo and Juliet
Pericles
Master Faustus
The Sonnets
I am sure I would have gotten more out of that book if my Familiarity was much bigger  !

Freema Agyeman is currently starring at Beatrice in Much Ado About Nothing, and I hope that the RSC films it like they do for a lot of their other shows.

If he was around today Shakespeare would be making movies. I wouldn’t feel intimidated. I’ve seen a couple plays, & a few films but I’d be lying if I claimed to understand every single word. But I understand enough plus I love the sound of the language.

I’m planning on seeing the Globe’s version of Romeo and Juliet as a Western while I’m over there next month. I was going to go over to Stratford, but the only plays on are Hamlet Hail to the Thief and Maughan’s The Constant Wife, neither of which appeals to me…

Oh god, this reminded me of last year when I was roaming around Regent’s Park. I heard raised voices of a couple arguing, and they seemed to be just on the other side of the hedge from me. It sounded quite violent, so I felt like I couldn’t ignore it, but I was like, am I about to see someone getting abused by her boyfriend?

Nobody was on the other side of the hedge. A few minutes later, I realized I was distantly overhearing a performance of Twelfth Night.

Anyone going to the Utah Shakespeare Festival this summer?
