Who owns the Sensorites?

Do we know? Peter Newman passed fifty years ago and they don’t appear in much DW media. Would it be his estate given the licensing details of the time frame, or the BBC?

Pretty sure it will be the BBC for the Sensorites. I think their lack of appearances is probably more down to the relative lack of enthusiasm for their one and only TV appearance than any particular rights issues.

This would make some level of sense, they’ve appeared in Big Finish and had an odd appearance here or there in a comic or card game. Hm.

There are plenty of monsters/aliens who don’t have a huge number of return appearances.

That’s interesting actually, why does the BBC own those but Terry Nation owns the Daleks?

This is exactly why I asked the question.

It will be to do with whatever contracts were drawn up at the time but I could be wrong. Haisman and Lincoln had the rights to the Yeti and Quarks which is why the BBC got in trouble when they let TV Comic use the Quarks in the comic strip.

I think that the lack of unofficial official media featuring them is proof that they are owned by the BBC.

So I emailed the BBC about this and they suggested buying a license to “adapt content from Doctor Who in a public or commercial setting,” which to me settles the question - the BBC owns them. Just in case anyone wanted an update on the matter, of course.
