After a bit of discussion on the Free for All thread, I decided to create a dedicated thread for Dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures. I’ll post more screenshots here and be happy to talk about my first major obsession with anyone.
I loved dinosaurs as a kid. They were definitely my first major obsession. I didn’t gravitate towards the common favorites of T-Rex, Triceratops, Stegosaurus, Brontosaurus/Apatosaurus as much as I gravitated towards Dromaeosauridae (the Raptors). I vaguely remember watching Walking with Dinosaurs as a kid a friend’s house when it aired on Discovery Channel here in the US. I did see Jurassic Park but not terribly young, I think it was closer to 2001-ish. I still love dinosaurs, but have other obsessions these days (Doctor Who being the biggest currently). I look forward to having dinosaur-related discussions with you guys.
When I was a kid i had some dinosaur toys and these two were my favourite ones. They look like they could be my friends and if i had a TARDIS i would go back in time and say hi.
This is one of my favorite shots I took in the game. It’s using the Sierra Nevada square map. The dinosaur is Edmontosaurus and I just love the colors on these and the way they pop against the snowy background.
My favourite as a kid was Parasaurolophus. I knew it from CCTV Channel 9, which is dedicated to all kinds of documentarys. I’d spend entire Saturdays watching them, or just use them as background noise as I do my homework.
I couldn’t remember much about it, though. The only thing I remember is seeing something like this on TV and it’s been living in my head since then.
An excellent Youtube series of real paleontologists examining and discussing the dinosaurs (and other species) or Jurassic World Evolution 2:
These were my favourites, too!
Here’s another Parasaurolophus for you @AlfieSigma and @uss-genderprise:
You’re going to either love or hate the Christmas special aren’t you @DarthGallifrey .
My favourite Dinosaurs as a kid:
We’ll see. It’s a Moffat-penned Christmas special and my mileage varies on those. It looks fun though, though it also looks like the Rex is only a small part of the episode.
Surprisingly, these weren’t really part of my childhood. I’ve seen a handful, but they didn’t really appeal to me that much.
Another one I love. The angle of the shot with the edge of the water, the trees and mountains in the background, all centered on the Troodon.
Has anyone read the Benny novel https://tardis.guide/story/sword-of-forever/ by Jim Mortimore where Benny has a sentient Velociraptor companion? And if so is worth trying to track down?
In a word…
No…
(But always, always, always make up your own mind).
I gave it 0.5/5
Oh now you are making me want to read it with that rating
