Doctor Who has been around for a long time and has had many, many intros across it’s over 60 year long history, some good, some not so much. Some had great music and bad visuals, some had bad visuals and some great music. Some were divisive and some are universally beloved.
Personally, I love Eleven’s first intro for the music and visuals - it looks great and is probably my favourite rendition of the title score, with all the low bellows and strings mixed with a nice dose of sci-fi beats.
And a recent discovery for me, the War Master’s from the audio boxsets, though obviously lacking in visuals, is a stellar score that you can really visualise your own intro to.
If I had to pick a worst, it would actually be Eleven’s second title sequence. Way too CG and the whole blood vessel look was a choice. I do like the kinetic movement of the camera however.
The Thirteenth Doctor’s is my absolute favorite. It’s the perfect modernization of the original concept, looking and sounding very otherwordly. Shame it was attached to such a mid era though.
I personally can’t stand the Miracle Day opening, I thought the previous iterations were much stronger
My favourite opening overall absolutely has to be 8’s original Big Finish theme. I think it really fits what 8’s stories were like, especially around the time of Chimes and Scherzo
I also love 12’s opening, and especially the version used in Before The Flood. The guitar version should have stuck around for much longer
The first is really the best in some ways, being the one everything else is based on. I’m fond of a lot of classic’s title sequences, and, honestly, I have a soft spot for the later ones…
My absolute favourite as of right now is 3’s Season 11 sequence it is glorious, the only downside being the full body pertwee but I honestly don’t mind it
I’m not sure what my least favourite would be I don’t really dislike any of them, maybe 14/15’s to be honest
11’s first titles are a definite favourite. They look cool and they take a slightly different stance to the theme tune as well.
My all-time favourite rendition of the theme tune is the late Tennant one, the rock version. It always brings shivers down my spine and I get so hyped up by it.
An honourable mention of the TV Movie theme tune. I love an orchestral rendition of the Doctor Who theme and that movie does it perfectly!
My least favourite is McCoy’s titles. So ugly and dated and '90s (even though they are from the late 80s).
My absolute favorite: the very first. Simple, elegant, wow.
But I do love most of them. I guess many of the later classic ones somewhat lack for me in hindsight.
I very much liked the 13th doctor’s realistic space-time distortion effect. But I also enjoyed the abstract ‘watch dial’ (I’ve had difficulties finding the proper English translation, in German it’s ‘Zifferblatt’) effect of the 12th.
Just different, not better or worse, imho.
I’m honestly really obsessed with the new ones. I also liked thirteen era’s a lot, but at this point my enjoyment of the credits is dampened by how let down I feel by the era itself.
I wouldn’t go as far as saying it’s my favourite, but I’ve been watching Daleks! and I really love the title sequence. It perfectly fits the Daleks and makes them seem threatening. The music fits perfectly.
And, again not my favourite, but I feel like I have to defend the eleventh Doctor second intro a bit. Loved that it brought back the face in the title sequence!
