What Should You Watch/Read/Listen To Next?

All good and in complete agreement with me, no doubt.

This isn’t so much a ā€œWhat Should I Listen To Nextā€ as much as a ā€œWhat Should I Buy Nextā€. I’m considering using a $25 Visa Gift Card I got for Christmas to get a Big Finish Gift Card as I figure that’ll be the easiest method of payment. I’m looking at picking up some Fourth and/or Fifth Doctor stuff. So, the following is what I’ve narrowed it down to. Please pick two releases. The highest number of votes will probably (but not gauranteed) be what I’ll pick up next, which I’ll wait until after the current 12 Days of BigFinishmas.

  • The Dream Team (Fifth Doctor/Adric/Nyssa/Tegan)
  • The Great Beyond (Fifth Doctor/Adric/Nyssa/Tegan)
  • The Fourth Doctor Adventures Series 11: Solo
  • The Fourth Doctor Adventures Series 12: New Frontiers (Fourth Doctor/Leela/Margaret)
  • The Fourth Doctor Adventures Series 12: Angels and Demons (Fourth Doctor/Leela/Margaret)

I haven’t heard The Great Beyond, but I have heard the others!

The Merfolk Murders is an excellent murder mystery and I enjoyed The Dream Team quite a bit too. Definitely my favourite of the bunch, though Solo and Angels and Demons are both a lot of fun. I found both stories from New Frontiers extremely dull.

Also– at five hours Angels and Demons is definitely the best bang for your buck!

The thing is, if I get Series 12, I’d want to get both because they form a companion arc. Sad to hear that they’re on the dull side.

Well, that’s only my opinion of course!

I wouldn’t say either Solo or Frontiers are essential listening for Angels and Demons, but I totally understand not wanting to buy them individually.

Looks like The Dream Team is definitive winner, with Angels and Demons coming in second. The others are all tied up for third.

Bit of a different question but I got Ā£55 worth of gift card for Waterstones and think I’ll probably use it to buy some of the more recent books.

I’ll probably plug the two Puffin Classic titles I don’t have - Wonderland and Treasure Island but beyond that I’m not sure. Here’s what I’m considering - what would people recommend:

  • I, TARDIS
  • Star Tales
  • The Adventures Before
  • The Frida Kahlo/Charles Darwin Books
  • Doctor Who Atlas
  • The Women Who Lived
  • Death in the Stars
  • The 15th Doctor novels
  • Once Upon a Time Lord
  • Downtime (the Obverse book about the Wilderness Years)

So the poll is closed and I’ll be picking up The Dream Team and FDA Series 12 Part 2.

Thanks for all the votes people - unfortunately the top-voted item, Downtime is listed as ā€˜currently unavailable’ at Waterstones which is annoying as I hadn’t noticed it before I went to add it to my basket. So it’s definitely going to be Rebellion on Treasure Island, Doctor Who in Wonderland and probably Once Upon a Time Lord. Everyone has recommended the Adventures Before but is it really that good? I think the DWM review was a bit lukewarm - or someone’s review somewhere. May well plump for Death in the Stars.
