Definitely a reasonable reading from what we’ve seen over the past few years of the show, sounds about right. Just curious where they’re going with it, and hopefully they are going somewhere with it.
I’m not seeing what you’re getting at, sorry. Fifteen doesn’t come across anything like Six to me. Thirteen, yes.
Not sure if this is controversial or not but i hate that argument that show got worse cause they made 12th doctor an old man and i kind of hated that ppl stopped watching cause 12 was an older doctor,I just dont get it and as someone who thought Series 8 was miles better that 7 and 6 it was just so sad to me.
I don’t think it’s a sentiment you’ll see reflected around here at all. It’s also not a sentiment I’ve seen expressed anywhere since 2014…
I feel like it was largely something expressed by new Who people who had never seen classic. Those of us that were fans of, say, 1 and 3 were definitely happy to see an older doctor…
On the subject of misogyny or racism or queerphobia influencing reactions to certain Doctors I think it’s a dangerous route to go down. It’s very easy to say to someone who doesn’t like 13 or 15 that it’s because they are misogynist or racist or whatever.
My dislike of Capaldi’s 12 is well known but no one has ever accused me of being Scotphobic or ageist. No one who doesn’t like Tennant or Smith is accused of being ‘hipsterphobic’.
Absolutely there are people who hate Jodie or Ncuti for those reasons but for the vast majority it’s going to be nothing more or less than the characterisation, rightly or wrongly, isn’t fitting with their view of the character. That’s why Pertwee and Capaldi are my least favourite Doctors and 5, 11 and 13 are probably my favourites.
Adding to this, it can also sometimes drown out legitimate discussion and criticism when people just make those kinds of assumptions, just going “well you just don’t like them because of x.” Was actually kind of common early in Whittaker’s run.
Honestly, good, if people saw that the 12th Doctor was going to be an old man and decided that the show didn’t interest them anymore and quit, that’s a good thing in my eyes. Too often, I see people who engage with long-form content like DW who start to fall out of love with the thing but keep watching because of sunk cost fallacy. I think the fandom would be in a much healthier place if more people accepted that the show they fell in love has changed.
I liked the midnight release time. It was much better to be able to see it when you woke up. Waking up and then waiting a couple of hours is so much worse.
How many people actually stopped because he was old?
Didn’t it coincide with the time when it was removed from Netflix, so millions of people suddenly stopped having easy access to the show?
That’s what I always thought.
Twelve always wins polls around here so people clearly love him, but it may have been more casual fans who didn’t like him as much.
I get what you mean but if it was released at midnight I’d be tempted to stay up and watch it at midnight (I did a lot last year) which isn’t good for my sleep patterns, and the first time I saw The Devil’s Chord I fell asleep a bit during it lol
Maybe it could be released at four or something.
Not sure how controversial it is so sorry if not, but wow I really am sick of the last of the time lord angst. I feel like we should just have Gallifrey and TLs back even if they rarely appear. It worked for me back in 2005, started to get a little stale for me by Day of the Doctor, LOVED it bringing stuff back even in the background, and then didn’t love Chibnall destroying it all again.
And having it destroyed and all the last of the time lord stuff in RTD2 is just making it feel kinda old hat to me.
I agree, I want Gallifrey back
Maybe this was a take for the non controversial thread it seems
Yeahhh honestly I wish we had Gallifrey back at this Point (and I’d kinda argue having it destroyed in the first Place was probably not one that I am that fond of to begin with ). I hope they bring it back AND stick with it, because frankly bringing back a second Time will be a tough Act to follow (and let’s be honest it will be brought back, I can’t imagine it staying dead yet again).
I’m not bothered either way, but it would be nice if the show somehow told us there were Time Lords and Gallifreyans out there still. That some had fled the devastation, off-world, maybe they’re fobwatched or in hiding, but out there. That way you can have your cake and eat it. You don’t need to yo-yo Gallifrey back all over again, and Time Lords can pop up whenever a writer has a good story for them. Kinda like how Moffat made it so the planet/Time Lords were around but stuck at the end of the universe - to keep them at arms length, but also to be able to use them when necessary.
I thought Chibnall destroying Gallifrey again after we only just finished a 9(?) series arc about it being brought back, just to give the Doctor more “angst”, was a really really bad choice.
Even more so since it was done off-screen. That was my biggest niggle with it. “Oh, the Master nuked it in between stories.” Wasted potential there!
Yeah this is one of the rare Decisions of Chibnall that baffled me. Oh well, one day it will comeback. I just hope it doesn’t become a Thing like ComicBook Deaths (now it’s dead, now it’s not, oh it’s dead again, repeat after repeat)
