What is your most controversial opinion?

TARDIS Guide is all about trying to accentuate the positive and remember that there’s no wrong way to enjoy Doctor Who. Glad to see other DWW fans.

I truly never understood the hate for it, but I am also a notorious (and perhaps ONLY) fan of In The Forest of the Night so who can say what’s wrong with me

Last Christmas has some properly scary bits and Shona is brilliant. Nick Frost is awesome as Santa.

I need to rewatch Forest because I feel like I should like it, but on first watch it bored me.

All of Season 8 has a weird, hazy sort of magical realism to it that I think Forest does very well. It’s almost entirely stylistic, because as I remember the substance of the script is sort of rubbish, but on a purely vibes level it succeeds like a lot of that season does. Same with Time Heist, and honestly the finale too.

I think it’s the fans who take Doctor Who too seriously. I really don’t think even the modern series does it that much, except the propensity for making the Doctor too god-like.

The flaw in this argument is I was a child when it came out lol

My review expands on my rather glib comment to make it clear it’s all about the traditions of children’s literature.

Every rewatch of Last Christmas for me I flip flop on whether I love it or hate it I don’t know why. Dr Mysterio is ok there are better episodes, but its decent bit of fun for christmas

Unfortunately Doctor Mysterio and Last Christmas are my lowest ranked xmas specials, but my third lowest one is controversial which is Voyage of the Damned :see_no_evil:

I LOVE Voyage of the Damned but then I’m a sucker for a disaster movie.

Voyage of the Damned is my favourite Christmas special

Voyage of the Damned may just be my least-watched Tennant episode ever. I skip it during every rewatch. It makes me cringe

is it the Jesus lift? That one is a horseshoe for me where one end of it is “Oh lovely Kylie Minogue and the husband from Keeping Up Appearances! Delightful!” and the other end knows that at some point actual angels are going to lift David Tennant out of hell, and then I have flashbacks of Floating Jesus Doctor forgiving The Master in The Sound of Drums and I have to go and lie down in a cold room for a while with Enya on.

It’s just the combination of everything, it seems like a parody of Doctor Who to me.

And when I read the interview from Clive Smith (Richard from Keeping Up Appearances) where he totally slated the show and was a real d*ck it made me like it even less :disappointed:

But it’s got Kylie…

And Bannakaffalatta and the Van Hoffs and Bernard Cribbins and it’s like the Poseidon Adventure and Russel Tovey and Geoffrey Palmer and the gag about Boxing Day and going to war with Turkey.

And killer halos.

Love it.

Ok I agree about Russell Tovey :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I actually really love Doctor Mysterio. I just have a lot of fun with it. I fully admit Grant is totally miscast but I just think it’s so much fun.

Unfortunately, I agree with many of your points. It’s an enjoyable episode in general, but the more I think about it the less I like it. Of course, my main problem is the blood libel, but even ignoring that…

The song gets me, especially. It’s fun, but you’re right that it’s underwritten. In general Doctor Who has never been great with lyrics - just look at The Long Song, which repeats the same four lines the entire way through! But at least that felt thematically appropriate and was more of a background to the scene. The goblin song felt very much like they realised they have two leads who can sing, so they better put it to use. It didn’t feel earned like a musical episode should. I’m all for musical episodes, I love them, but they have to mean something. They don’t work well as introduction episodes.

I think saying Ruby’s mum turned evil is a little extreme, but I agree with the sentiment. I find it hard to believe that Ruby could have been such a perfect baby as to make her want to continue fostering so much more. It’s not easy to become a foster parent, so she must have wanted it pretty badly from the beginning.
