Interested to know what genre you class it as.
I think Doctor Who is quite unique in that there isn’t really a genre it can’t use in the show.

100% agree with you there. As an anniversary episode, it’s nowhere near the level of something like Zagreus, and if treating it like a regular episode, it’s just pretty average to me. (Also, I do have vehement rage at the lack of 8 in it and the existence of the War Doctor, so that may colour my judgement)
Don’t know if I’d call it overrated – it’s a really great commentary on herd mentality and the psychology of fear – but I get where you’re coming from. Often I find myself surprised that this is seen by many as the best rtd era episode – surely there must be several that are much better? But there really aren’t many. Part of me thinks that Midnight is so popular because many of the episodes in that era are much more mediocre, unlike say the Moffat era when nearly ever other episode is a standout. (Just my own opinion, not trying to claim this as an objective statement of fact)

For what it’s worth, I don’t often see it stated as the best RTD era episode, but I do see it stated quite often as RTD’s best episode. (Which is something I happen to agree with.)

Yeah actually I think I should have said that. People tend to praise moffat-written rtd-era episodes over it, like blink. I’d also probably call it my favourite rtd-written episode, and every time I remember that I always think wait… he can’t be all that great a writer then, because his greatest episode is on the same level as an average moffat episode to me
