What is your most controversial opinion?

Reading some of the latest BF Talk here: Yeah, I totally agree from what I listen to, at least. Personally speaking, and I am not sure if this is necessarily an unpopular Opinion, but it’s honestly a bit of a shame how much more dominant the 3×60 Minutes Format has become. Like don’t get me wrong it has its Positive letting Classic Doctors have shorter Stories in the revived Format, there have been some brilliant Outings for sure. But I have to admit it’s a bit sad that in the Process of doing that, we kinda have been losing a lot of 4 Parters lately (like there are some, but they seem to become less and less somehow).
In general I am must quite sure if I am all that sold of Ending the Early Adventures and the Main Range, both Ranges are very dear to me and brought plenty of great Stories. And while the Idea of Doctor Ranges on its own is a very solid one, I am not quite sure if it translated too well.
Good examples in that regard would probably be both the 1DAs and 2DAs (in my Eyes). While the former had an exciting Promise, I must admit I am not quite sure for what it’s going for and despite promising to give us some lovely 1 and Dodo Adventures, she does often feel sidelined (especially with those older Companion Releases).
On the other hand, the latter just personally hasn’t really sparked for me. I love the second Doctor and I think Michael has improved greatly over Time having heard every of his Outings. And while I am not the biggest on the whole Season 6B Story, I think it has Potential, but I must admit getting Zoe and Jamie back, feels a bit aimless. Why not let this Doctor be alone for a change or give him somebody new to make this truly a bolder take, considering S6B should be able to go more out-there with this Incarnation.

Like I said as a Concept, I think the Idea of having a Range for every Doctor from 1-8 is lovely and with ranges such as the 3DAs (which seems to be usually very well-loved in its Era Accurate Approach) or the usually highly praised the 5DAs, it can certainly work. But with a lot of the others, I am not quite sure. I mean, the Issues with 8 have been talked quite well here (and honestly a bit of a shame, considering he has been THE numbered EU Doctor), but it was probably something that would have come sooner or later sadly, I fear.
I do wish maybe they wouldn’t spread themselves ‘thin’, if that’s the right Word. While Noble, Part of me wonders if getting 1-2 or even 3 Boxsets for each Doctor a Year has been the greatest of Idea and not an ‘Overkill’.
Probably just a bit rambley here, but thought I might add my own Opinion of Big Finish’s current State to the mix. I do still love them, but I feel like I am personally a bit more interested in seeing where ranges such as the Lost Stories or the Novel Adaptions are going rather than the Main Doctor Ranges.
Overall, I do think @sircarolyn said it quite well when they mentioned how the Classic Doctor Ranges have been feeling more sidelined or directionless lately. It’s a Pity in my eyes for sure.

I definitely miss the 4 parters. I know some people round here think they drag but they’re wrong and obviously not proper fans of the classic series and it’s superior format…

I miss the Main Range

For me the mistake isn’t going back because I’m all for enjoying the actors while they’re available. But I wish they had it as an extra and not part of the main releases. Just like they did with the Further Adventures. In fact, I think the Further Adventures was the way to go (even if I do think the Charley ones nedeed some reworking to fit her era better)

Or you know - if we still had the Main Range (and we all know the 8DAs would be going on anyway), the Charley/Audacity story arc could’ve been an Main Range storyline to pay homage to the early days and explore that initial tone (that I do miss, romantic Eight is the best one for me), while we kept moving foward in the 8DAs. Not unlike what they did for Mary, if longer.

Despite twelve now being one of my favorite doctors, there are a lot of things about season 8 I really dislike. However, I will defend Robot of Sherwood to the death. I adore it, it’s so goofy.

Doctor Who needs to take a break for a few years.

Gotcha! Because whenever they say “it’s time we had ourselves a nice holiday” is when all the best adventures start. You mean an in universe break, right?

People say this, and I can’t for the life of me figure out why.

I say it so that the production team can get out of the grind of producing content for a while. Also so that the public can hunger for it again.

Apparently, my hot take is not liking Boom Town

Same. It won’t be rested, it will be cancelled. I do not see any chance of it coming back if it leaves our screens again. Nor do I see a situation where the public will be clamouring for its return.

But also, its not a thing I dwell on tbh.

The general public weren’t clamouring for its return in the wilderness years (it was often treated as a joke, frankly) but 2005 came along after 16 years of absence and took everyone by surprise. Just saying.

Doctor Who goes away for a few years, it’ll be cancelled, and when it comes back, it’s coming back as a reboot with no continuity with the previous shows.

Probably as sort of a sci-fi superhero action movie type thing. His parents were killed when his home planet was destroyed, and he travels time and space in search of justice. He is the shadow in every police box. He is… the Doctor.

Completely different entertainment landscape now.

I also don’t know how exactly resting it for a few years would actually help the writing and all that. Better off just waiting until a new showrunner or Doctor as both naturally reach their ends.
