This is a fake!

“Exquisite. Absolutely exquisite.”

Suave as hell Scaroth.

The exchange between the Doctor and Romana 2 at the top of the Eiffel Tower.

Add to that:

“You’re a beautiful woman, probably.”

“I don’t think he’s as stupid as he seems.”
“My dear, nobody could be as stupid as he seems.”

I worry that I won’t have a satisfying answer for this, but both of the Sil stories come at the bottom of my Colin ranking, I always flit between the two for which one I like least. It must be said that Sil himself is never the issue, I think he’s the saving grace in both of his stories, I’d be over the moon if he made a surprise return in the future. Vengeance on Varos itself I find to be quite drawn out and boring, and that’s usually the biggest reason for stories losing marks with me. Doctor Who is such a mental show, anything can happen, it can be endlessly exciting, so I don’t care if things are a bit silly, if they don’t make much sense, or if there’s a bit of dodgy acting or CGI, but as soon as I start getting bored with it, that’s when I have a problem, Doctor Who should never be boring. It’s certainly not without merit though, as I mentioned, Sil is great, I think the makeup is very good. Had Colin’s era been longer, I imagine it would be closer to the middle of my ranking, but because he only has a handful of stories, its inevitable that some that are just okay end up right at the bottom. In hindsight, calling it “one of the worst” may have been a bit dramatic. One of the worst Colin stories, but there are MUCH worse stories overall.

Douglas Adams is just such an incredible writer

After being here a while I have realized that this is my top three most controversial opinion.

  • Ten and Rose are my favorite TARDIS team
  • The Twelfth Doctor is overrated.
  • Heaven Sent is good but not fantastic

I think you may be the only person I’ve heard who didn’t like Varos so props to you!

I’m sorry to say that the Sil stories on audio would turn that on its head haha. I don’t know if this is controversial, but, to me, Sil should’ve been a one-off character. He was great in Varos, but his role in Mindwarp was unneeded. They could’ve put any new villain in his spot and nothing would’ve drastically changed about the story. By the time BF started using him, he was played out. The audio stories he was in were not good.

I’ve not heard them yet so I can’t comment, but I’m slowly making my way through the free audios on Spotify, and Mission to Magnus is on my to-do list for some point in the future, so I’ll get back to you on that.

They’re okay

Abso-bloody-lutely

When you say ‘good’ you also mean ‘overrated’, right?

Yes I do!

I love The Armageddon Factor and I don’t think it drags at all lol. Atrios has some of the best design in the show, it’s incredibly tense, and goes so many places in its runtime. It’s really fun and really good.

Good to know I’m not alone. I love Mentalis and delight at K9 enjoying his “conversation” with the Zeon battle computer. I see why others are frustrated by the story but it always puts a big smile on my face.

I don’t know if this one’s actually controversial so I guess I’ll just ask: is it consensus that Jubilee is better than Dalek, or am I being weird with my Shearman rankings again?

I don’t think you’re wrong. I think that that is the general consensus. Jubilee is the superior story, but I find that, while Daleks shares its roots with Jubilee, they are very different stories and they are technically doing very different things.

I remember I actually fired Jubilee up at one point, then after a little bit, stopped, because I felt like I’d completely lost track of what was going on… :dalek:

Apparently it’s controversial to believe that Yvonne Hartman as a character is morally black, and then to enjoy her character as a fan.

A person blocked me over it. Slight spoilers for her actions in torchwood One audios, but she murders people, spikes civilians, indoctrinates young people into becoming operatives, kidnaps people if she can make it benefit her, tortures people regularly, grooms people, and is a chronic liar.

And once this person found out that she isn’t a good person, they asked why I “stan” her, I replied because you are allowed to like villains in media, and then they blocked me and called me weird.

It’s the equivalent of being called a fascist if you enjoyed I, Davros lmao

Ah yes, what a lovely institution that could do no wrong :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Oh you can absolutely enjoy an immoral character. I love Missy and she’s a complete psychopath!

I agree with you. Enjoying the performance of a villanous character and the complexity of their motivations/portrayal doesn’t make you a bad person. It’s not like you’d vote for them or commend their actions. Some villains can be compelling to watch (or listen to) but still be reprehensible.

We can surely ALL relate to the characters we love to hate. Davros, as you rightly say, is a good example (I love “I, Davros” to this day). The Master too. I adore watching Delgado and delight in his performance, but he’s not exactly a role model for me.
