Totally the opposite for me. I was always a little disappointed that they kinda softened 12 as he went, even if I appreciate how well-crafted that arc was. The older, snarky, sarcastic, and not always nice thing I always like, I find that kind of Doctor very funny and entertaining, rather than annoying. Makes the character feel more alien to me, the ones that fit more with a human idea of “nice” feel too, well, human to me. Series 8 for me was “finally, a Doctor more like 3 (my favorite classic Doctor) again,” a breath of fresh air after 10 and 11 (even if I do quite like 11 as well, just the young exterior was getting tired after two Doctors of it). Then Series 9 was just great episode after great episode (except The Woman Who Lived and Sleep No More), and the Doctor still had some of that attitude, but presented in a different way, a sort of midlife crisis thing going on. Add in Clara and 12 at their absolute best, I stand by Series 9 being the best character arc of the entire show. Series 10 he started to feel more like just a normal modern Doctor that fits in with 9, 10, 11, and lost a lot of what made him stand out in the first place. Combine that with in comparison to Series 9 which would practically blow me away week to week to episodes that were just good, just fine in series 10 until the last two episodes, and that I prefer Clara to Bill and Nardole, Series 10 just never hit with me like 8 or 9 did, even if it has improved a bit in my eyes through re-evaluation.
Or even just a running theme of water, in some unique way. Like the Doctor and Bill finding themselves in freak rainstorms every now and again, with the Doctor commenting about it being odd but then brushing it off. I dunno, just something, as a reminder of Heather/the puddle monster thing.
I don’t see many people talk about this episode,but what do you guys think about Empress of Mars,I think its a really decent episode and probably the best ice warrior story on tv since seeds of death.
Not really my favorite episode… but it had Alpha Centauri in it, and I love Alpha Centauri.
It’s fine. I much prefer 'Cold War´over it, but like it’s an average Episode. As far as Ice Warriors Stories go on TV, it sits in the middle for me.
Empress of Mars and The Eaters of Light are very much episodes of all time, they’re not bad imo, in fact they’re quite enjoyable, but they’re unfortunately sandwiched between two of the best arcs in S10.
Once again Capaldi suffers from having too many great episodes
