What (else) Are You Reading? - Non-DW

Finished Armageddon the Musical by Robert Rankin - quite fun, but unmistakably written by a middle-aged white British man in the 90s especially with how it approached Buddhism and its female characters. The main impression I got from it was “this seems like Exactly the type of work that influenced Paul Magrs”

That sounds interesting, tell me does it have a particular Name to it? :eyes:
And more importantly do you know if there is a CD of it? :eyes:
(Thanks for the Suggestion!)

Looks like the CD is out of print—Thalia (https://www.thalia.de/shop/home/artikeldetails/A1034817305), for example, only has the download version and the book the audio drama is based on. But I did see a few used copies available from secondhand sellers. If you’re looking to buy one - they are out there!

Started listening—after a few, hmm, interesting  minutes at the beginning, it quickly turns brilliant. Some parts are probably NSFW, so maybe don’t blast it on loudspeakers in public.

Oh, and just to avoid possible Buyer’s remorse—it’s in German. (Enkidu’s voice actually sounds like someone from Munich, which is pretty cool—and maybe a little bit of self-deprecating humor on the part of the Bavarian production team. )

I’ve been getting an itch to read some cyberpunk stuff recently so today I begin Neuromancer by William Gibson

Rereading the Thriller Bark arc of One Piece right now. Genuinely would be a top 10, maybe even top 5, arc for me because of how funny it is. Unfortunately it has Absalom, who is easily the worst character in the series, and him being a creep genuinely drags the arc significantly down…

Funnily enough Doctor Who also has a character called Absalom (Daak) who (at least in the stories I’ve encountered him in) is also a creep…

Ah, thank you! I appreciate that, hope you enjoy the Audio play as well :hugs:

I started to listen to the audiobook of Reaper Man today. I wanted to continue my Discworld read-through after a couple of years’ long pause. It is such a fun world to step back into.

Ooh, I’ve been thinking about giving it a go. I’m interested in reading your thoughts about it!

Finished it, thought it took a little while to get going but really enjoyed it by the end. Excited for the tv adaptation

I’m reading I’m Behind You by John Ajvide Lindqvist. I like how his writing is very similar to Stephen King. I recently read The Reality, also written by him, and the book is very similar to the episode Wish World.

I just finished Convenience Store Woman by Sayaka Murata. I didn’t care so much for the Shiraha storyline, but overall it was a very good novella with a nice theme about not fitting into society.

I’ve decided to make one reading goals this summer completing at least two of the Discworld subseries (I’d like it to be three, but it depends on how long things are on hold at the library). Currently focused on the witches, death, and moist van lipwig.

Just finished The Secret of the Old Mill, the third book in the original Hardy Boys series. The boys get caught hunting counterfeiters as their case dovetails into their father’s case of industrial sabotage. A fun mystery that still holds up really well for me as an adult after originally reading it as a kid.

I finished “I Am Behind You”, it was a terrifying read with many mysteries along the way that the author left open for interpretation, but man, despite everything I really managed to connect with the characters. Now I’m going back to a lighter read, as well as reading some more Eight Doctor Adventures

Finished Beautyland yesterday and loved it. Amazing story told through the frame of needing to send alienes faxes about life on earth.
