I donât include them with any season, since theyâre specials.
Itâs the easiest way and doesnât create endless debate on where to put them. Joy to the World is an episode between Series 14 and Series 15.
I canât get over it being a debate Iâm so /srs All my life Iâve been under the impression everyone agrees, but it makes sense Doctor Who fans disagree about everything.
Also just the definition of a special episode is that it lies outside of a regular season. I know many Who fans like to group, categorize, and put things in boxes, but I think itâs ok to just have some things that stand alone. Itâs not like itâs automatically lesser for not being part of a season, itâs just separate. Grouping with a season for marketing and sales reasons makes a certain amount of sense, but just if Iâm talking about the episode, The Five Doctors is just the 20th Anniversary special, the Waters of Mars one of the 2009 David Tennant Specials, Twice Upon a Time the 2017 Christmas special, and etc. not considering them in any seasons.
I would just put it on the poll because season 2 isnât out yet, also it would have been nice to consider voting for it, I wouldnât have but it would have been nice
Each to their own! I grew up with that being how I classified them and thought until recently it was the standard so I wonât change my mind now lol. Just makes the most sense to me too but yeah, as I say each to their own.
I donât agree.
The Christmas Invasion is classed as part of Series 1 on iPlayer. Which makes some sense. Itâs a 2005 episode, features a continuation of stuff from that series (Harriet Jones, the Tyler family, etc) but for some reason I see it more as the start of Series 2 because itâs David Tennantâs debut and because I collected the old âvolumeâ DVDs and it came out as part of Series 2.
I guess, in the end, it doesnât matter, but it fascinates my fan brain to see the different interpretations for this kind of thing.
I had those too, loved the covers!!!
I think ultimately like Iâve mentioned, they want to capitalise on DVD sales so obviously they wont wait 6-8 months or however long it is between the finale and Christmas. Hence releasing the special with the next set.
I personally dont see the hype with Rogue,i thought it was a decent story but i wasnt impressed by it.
Oh yeah, I completely agree. Itâs just an example of why TCI is firmly engrained in my mind as being part of Series 2, even though it was made as part of the first yearâs production blocks.
Going into this story I had low expectations and was blown away quite frankly. The hype, at least IMO, is this story means a lot for me as we got WAY more explicitly queer content from the Doctor and as someone who is queer it meant lots to me. Especially in the times weâre living in right now.
Honestly fair! I can see it being confusing for people starting now, like Disney+ has S1 episode numbering all wrong because of Ruby Road. Imagine two friends starting out, ones from the UK, one isnât, and they talk about âEpisode 6â but its different episodes
Disney+ is weird in that it has Ruby Road as both Season 1, Episode 1 and separately listed as Special #4.
And just to further complicate matters, Ncuti Gatwaâs first proper appearance is in Special #3.
I also think the whole aliens that kill people just as part of their cosplay and were pretty much just time-traveling, shape-shifting roleplayers, is just a perfectly Doctor Who level of goofy that just worked. Also, Gatwa and Groff were excellent together, they had great banter and chemistry, which really helped to sell it. The emotional moments worked, but werenât too much. Just an enjoyable episode all around, Rogue.
Its super complicated on Disney+ for sure. The specials are all down as separate entities too? Really not beginner friendly imo.
I think they could spend another four dollars to organize it in a way that makes sense.
