Someone say puppets?
Finished this. It was okay. But I missed the crossover. Apparently, there is a picture of a Dalek in it. Here it is from the Wiki:
I don’t see the Dalek, do you?
I start Time and the Rani tonight, then it’s Underworld next
Two absolute bangers back to back!
Sorry to hear that.
Continuing my Spring of Thirteen with Rosa.
Rewatched Robot, my first classic that I watched via DVD. I thought back then that it’s alright, a 6/10. But I enjoyed it much more this time around. Tom is fantastic right from the start and I didn’t notice it my first watch but this serial is actually really funny. Every time 4 smiles I just can’t help but smile myself.
The K1 Robot and its relationship with Professor Kettlewell and Sarah Jane are interesting and good parts of the story, Sarah does her own covert missions and looks fantastic doing it (that outfit with the white hat and the light blue clothes looks great). I think the overall plot isn’t the most fantastic, but the story is great as an introduction to 4.
I think the biggest issues the serial has are that K1 is simply too clumsy to be seen as a planet-wide threat, the main villains aren’t the best (though I do like that the main villain is a woman, out of the classics I’ve seen I don’t think there have been many female villains up until this point and Patricia Maynard does her role well) and they’re never seen again after being arrested, and finally the last part with K1’s rampage feels a tad bit tacked on.
I still really enjoyed it though, I might just bump it up to a 7/10.
I see it. At the top is the “skirt” part of a Dalek.
Now I see it. The picture is rotated! Thanks!
I’m going in with an open mind
PROBE Ep 2 on Discord with @JayPea and others!
The Power of the Doctor.
Again.
I know all too much about it…
I rewatched the original 3 Wallace and Gromit shorts today, wonderful wonderful stuff
Now I want to know more. Why do you know so much about it?
Rewatched TLoRS in preparation for s2 - and while there are a few plotholes I don’t fw or wish were explained better on rewatch (what do you mean Triad is making all their technology free? chrysalis theory? how did the time window awaken sutekh?) but yk what? I stand by this episode being an absolute masterclass in building tension.
I’d liken the vibe of the episode to that of a storm brewing on the horizon. It feels like tampering with the time window and trying to solve the mystery of Ruby’s mum is some great transgressive act that will get the characters punished. The dread is fully palpable. And that speech at the end. Oh, god, THAT SPEECH!!! I have it memorised. I know a lot of y’all don’t like the idea of the Pantheon but having all these powerful figures from the shows history being grouped together really scratches my Greek mythology loving brain.
If Wish World is anywhere close to this good when it drops, then we’re in for a treat. 9/10 episode.
I just finished Planet of the Spiders. I liked it but it’s not my favourite of the season. I had way more fun with the dinosaurs.
Jon Pertwee was there a while so I’m ready for a change but I still teared up during the regeneration scene, as I always do.
I have to admit though, I’ve heard so much about Tom Baker I’m scared of being disappointed.
It’s my brother’s favourite thing in the world, so it’s on all the time and he goes on about it a lot.
Is it allways stop-motion dolls?
Yes well it’s not stop-motion, Thunderbirds uses a technique used in many of Gerry Anderson, the creator’s, TV series, called supermarionation.
Essentially, it’s all shot with marionette puppets and models.
I can’t speak for everything Tom Baker-wise in DW, but out of his 41 TV stories I own 15 and have seen 13. I think all of them except 3 are at least good. And out of those last 3, two are mediocre and one is bad.
Like I said earlier about Robot (Tom Baker’s debut, which I rewatched yesterday), I think Tom nails his character almost immediately.
