I have a truly terrible memory, but that moment where Rose returns… solidified in my memory I remember exactly where I was when it happened
Now carrying on Vengeance on Varos. The bird make up on Peri is astonishingly good. Martin Jarvis is infinitely better than most of the guest cast.
Special edition?
Tales of the TARDIS version.
This Styre guy just keeps making mistakes.
I think my reference was a whoosh. The Sontaran Experiment. Back in the big Classic Who twitch stream “another mistake Styre” was in the between episodes ad break clips, and became a bit of a meme.
Nearly finished part 3 of The Leisure Hive, god bless the Foamasi
Decided to rewatch Nightmare in Silver for no particular reason at all . I actually enjoyed it a lot more than I expected, Mr Clever is an entertaining villain and Matt Smith plays him well, though they probably didn’t need to make him quite so skeevy
. The supporting characters are a bit whatever, I enjoyed Porridge a lot. The kids are ok, but really they just spend most of the episode standing still, not saying a word. The soldiers are just random cannon fodder, really just there for comedic relief and to die very funny deaths.
Overall I would say I was entertained by the episode, initially I had it at 3 stars, but after this rewatch I raised it up to 4 stars, before coming to my senses and lowering it down to a much more fair 3.5 stars, still the worst episode of 7B though.
As for that scene, I don’t hate it, but it is a tad cringe, and really doesn’t need to exist, and I was baffled on why it’s even there, until I read who wrote the episode, and suddenly everything makes sense.
Finished The Leisure Hive, had a very fun time watching that. God i love the Foamasi
Just rewatched The Legend of Ruby Sunday. Whatever issues there are with Empire of Death, this sure hits it out of the park. The mysteries just build and build until that awesome reveal. Even the music tries to make us second guess the reveal as the four-beat patern seems to signify the Master. Are there flaws to this episode? Oh absolutely. But it gets the tone perfect. The tension of the final fifteen-twenty minutes as it builds and builds to the reveal is exquisite. This really is so good. Now, if only they’d stuck the landing better.
CHUMBLIES!!! These things are so stupid but I love them so
Starting The Gunfighters today
My Season 1 rewatch concluded today with The Legend of Ruby Sunday/The Empire of Death. I still find them to be better than the consensus, but I didn’t like them as much as the first time around.
Just finished rewatching Flux and I enjoyed it. I’d only seen it once before this, when I watched it initially and I liked it then. I was unsure about whether I’d like it as much now as opposed to when I first watched it (i.e. Legend of the Sea Devils, it’s still fun to watch but it is not a great episode) but I was pleasantly surprised. The Halloween Apocalypse drags a little bit but the rest is pretty solid. The Vanquishers also tidies things up a little too quickly plot-wise but not egregiously. Flux is definitely different from most other seasons, but a good different.
Rewatching Dark Water/Death in Heaven, there is so much to love about these two episodes, the volcano scene, “Do you think I care for you so little that betraying me would make a difference”, Missy, just Missy, god it’s all just so good.
The scene where Missy reveals herself to be the Master is just so perfect, the Doctor has a very slight smile on his face, realising that his best friend/man crush is alive again, before realising the horror of what the Master’s return actually means, Capaldi nails that scene perfectly. Always good to have Osgood back, she’s probably my favourite UNIT character, plus I always appreciate someone who understands how cool bowties really are. While sometimes I feel like S8’s final can get overshadowed by S9 and 10s, really it goes to show how lucky we are that we got 3 absolute bangers of series finals in a row.
One minor thing that drags these episodes down though, they just announce there is a new Doctor with absolutely no fanfare, not even a regeneration, and give the role to some random person called “Jenna Coleman”, worst of all they keep the previous Doctor around the entire episode, then at the end act like there was never a new Doctor at all, personally I think Moffat really lost the plot with this one /j
Just finished watching Invasion of the Dinosaurs and I liked it a lot. The dinos are a bit goofy but cute and I was invested in the plot.
I think 6 part serials tend to be a bit slow but I wasn’t bored at all during this one and although I wasn’t a fan of Sarah Jane in her first episode (especially after Jo Grant, who I loved), this episode really warmed me up to her.
I wasn’t really convinced by the whole Mike Yates betraying UNIT because he wants to reboot the world to make it a better place though.
It is a great story. One of my favourites from that era.
Just finished The Evil of the Daleks animation - impressive animation on the final episode - love the Dalek Emperor in particular. Overall this did a good job although I do feel a slight disconnect when watching the animations. I’m wondering if I need to watch the black and white versions because I think the colour is possibly what is affecting my connection to them as my brain knows they should be in black and white.
I feel exactly the same, I’ve never once watched the animations in colour
I love the added layer that colour can bring to those stories. And had the technology been broadly available at the time, those episodes would have been in colour anyway
Watching The Legend of Ruby Sunday.
The Doctor just said he wants to keep his face for a long, long time.
I hope so
