I found the story to be kind of mid. It was a bit too slow for my taste. But it was a huge improvement over Death Comes to Time.
@Mattie1711 @deltaandthebannermen Snakedance is great. The final moment between 5 & Tegan. Doctor Who comforting his companion, arm around her shoulder. A commonplace enough thing in today’s show but rare in the Classic era.
It also struck me as having an extra poignancy given their at times antagonistic relationship.
There’s a deleted scene on the DVD which was to follow this which was cut because the episode was overrunning (it does sort of end quite abruptly with this scene) which when I watched I realised I had never scene before - brand new classic Who a good ten years after I thought I’d seen everything!
Oh my word - the Season 6 episode of Sock Puppet has a live audience and they clearly think it’s hilarious!
My mind went somewhere…
Shot of the audience, they’re all sock puppets.
Just had a rewatch of “The Rings of Akhaten”.
There’s just so much I don’t like in this story.
- The singing
- The script
- The costuming
- The singing
- The over reliance on the Sonic Magic Wand
- The part with the door being heavy when it’s held up by sonic waves (or something)
- The singing
- The speech!
- Matt Smith’s acting out that speech!
- The resolution with the leaf
- The Magic Wand
- And the singing
Nothing in this story is for me
1/5
But did you like the singing?
I was looking at that image trying to work out how it tied into today’s date because I thought you were pointing out we’d finally reached the day Egard Lumb died…
The Rings of Akhaten is probably my least favourite 11 story because it did the worst thing a Doctor Who story can do for me - I was bored.
Oh the singing! How did I forget about that?
I think it’s almost impressive that it is capable of being boring in that setting. There’s a bunch of different alien species in a somewhat interesting society - that’s such a good set-up. And yet the episode manages to become less than the sum of it’s parts.
What has singing ever done to you? Why do you dislike singing so? Singing is the language of love, peace, and unity!
Not the way it was used in that episode it wasn’t…
Any of you here fans of Eleventh Hour,I genuinely think its the best opener to a season.
I love it! I completely agree. It might even be the best episode to show someone who has never seen the show before.
The Eleventh Hour is a great opener to 11’s era.
I’m not even a fan of 11 a lot,but Series 5 is just perfect to me.
Watched the first two episodes of Kinda! Thanks for that suggestion. Very interesting so far, especially the way it Kinda explores mental states. Loved the mind benders in Tegan’s mind. Curious to see the rest, though pausing it for now as i became a bit sleepy (not to the episode’s fault!). We’ll see how quickly I’ll finish this one. Might take a month, might take a day.
