Finally wrote my review of Mission Impractical (which I’ve probably left too long before writing because I couldn’t really remember any of the bits I did like).

Took me absolutely ages to get through The Vaughn Identity, but that’s not the book’s fault. Work stress + daily 7:30 AM meetings really chews up the available relax-and-read time. I don’t know what the thinking was that led Candy Jar to close down the Lethbridge-Stewart line and start a UNIT line, given we still have plenty of the same characters. I guess it’s basically a shift from the pre-Benton formation of UNIT days to a time when UNIT exists and Benton’s a member. I say “I guess” because the old line didn’t all take place between The Web of Fear and The Invasion.

Well, whatever, a solid start to the “new” range. Sure it cannibalizes the TV story it follows, but I’m sure the series will move on to feature its own creations, just like the Lethbridge-Stewart series did.

Today I read the very good Kerblam novelisation, and the good Sting of the Zygons.

Just finished At Childhood’s End, I wish there were more actual interactions between Ace and 13, or Ace and Yaz, but otherwise a great novel

Finished ‘Seeing I’ (EDA #12) yester- actually, today at like 1AM.
In the words of Lady Gaga: ‘talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show stopping, spectacular, never the same, totally unique, completely not ever been done before, unafraid to reference or not reference’, etc.

One of my all-time favourites. What a book!

Finally completed Eden Rebellion!

Felt like a chore to be honest, which Doctor Who should never be.

I did not think that it was that bad.

Time for a trip to the library!

Seeing I is great and the best of that ‘lost Sam’ mini-arc.

I appreciate the effort, but the book was unengaging and just difficult for me to get through.

I feel it would have worked better in a different medium.

Overall, I think the Fifteenth Doctor NSAs are a very mixed bag, with Ruby Red being the highlight, and Caged being my least favourite.

Sadly they don’t feel like part of the Fifteenth Doctor’s era, as they are very different in style to his televised adventures.

I am planning on buying the Icons books and some of the “Classic Crossovers” range.

Are they any good?

This is probably because they were written before any of his episodes had aired, so the authors didn’t know for certain how his era would be. The early 9th and 10th Doctor books have similar problems.

As you said Ruby Red was definitely the best one. I found Caged to be almost as good. I would definitely say that they fitted great in the 15 timeline. I think that it was just what he needed, some low-key adventures.

I have not read them yet.

I actually thought that they captured 15 and Ruby kind of well. Even if they were written before s1.

Can’t comment on the Icons books. I’ve only read Doctor Who in Wonderland from the Classics Crossovers range, and it was pretty good.

I’ve been stuck halfway through “The Wonderful Doctor of Oz” for a couple of weeks now - it’s not really capturing my imagination…

I love Doctor Who in Wonderland, so I’d recommend that for sure.

Just finished Faction Paradox: The Brakespeare Voyage, easily the best Doctor Who book and potentially one of the best books I’ve ever read, easy 10/10, highly recommend
