That’s the problem I faced when I listened to Colditz, I just don’t believe that Ace would drop her nickname in any scenario.

Finished Gallifrey Series 3 with Panacea.

Not sure what I make off it. I like it, bjt at the same time I cant tell how I feel about it.

I think it was very ambitious trying to connect Free Time, Pandora, Brax, Arkadian, and the Dogma Virus all together. But at the same time, it does feel a touch underwhelming.

The solution being that the cure was intended to remove Time Lords ability to regenerate definitely works. But we know from general cannon that, that doesn’t happen.

I think its a good story but falls under the weight of its own ambition as it just struggles to connect everything.

Got around to listening to the second audio drama in the Faction Paradox Protocols series—really enjoyed it. Just my cup of tea.

Started World Enough and Time this morning (the River Song story). Bit Partners in Crime at the moment - the Doctor and companion seperately investigating mysterious goings on at a company.

Halfway through Pier Pressure. Atmospheric stuff with Sixie and Evelyn, and a historical celebrity (Max Miller) I know nothing about.

If you come out of this liking Pier Pressure and not liking Other Lives, well, I will have lost what little respect for you still remains…

The Nightmare Fair is next. Six and Peri enjoying themselves at an amusement park should’ve been the entire story. Get rid of everyone else :-p

Listened to “The Trojan Dalek” from Dalek Universe 2 on a walk today.

Dalek Universe keeps being solid, but I do need just one really spectacular story at this point to keep things being interesting.
For once it kind of did feel like Tennant was just “going through the motions” acting wise.
Might do “The Lost” today as well…

Finally listened to Omega. That was a lot. I. Think I liked it? The character work on Omega was great and I do see what people were missing in the S2 finale now. But. Idk it was very confusing. Will need time to think on it but this was generally pretty good, definitely a solid 7.5 or 8/10.

With the Villains trilogy now being done, I can’t help but wonder which villains Doctors 1-4 would have faced if they were receiving audios back then. Would 1 have had the Toymaker and 2 the War Chief? Or maybe the Master of the Land of Fiction? Sutekh seems a dead ringer for 4. What about 3, considering 7’s already got the Master secured? Fenric perhaps, considering they’d apparently already fought prior to 7’s TV appearances. Who knows.

Congratulations to The Nightmare Fair for being the latest story on my rewatch list to go up in rating. It is now three stars, up from two. It’s still a lot of nothing, but it’s the definition of “fine”. I think I’ll do Wreck of the Titan next.

Finished “The Lost”.

I think this story just relies a bit too heavily on the listener having listened to the 4DAs with Anya Kingdom beforehand…
(In the exact same way the newest Captain America movie relies too heavily on folks having a clear memory of a 17 year old Hulk movie and a D+ show…)

I only have Dalek Universe 3 left now…

Oh hello River Song, why are you in Movellan get up?? :eyes:

Between yesterday and this morning…

The Bad Penny did little for me. The monster was a nondescript growling thing, though I guess there is an interesting dilemma for poor Ronald.

Kill the Doctor! and The Age of Sutekh. I don’t know what’s worse, Sutekh as a big dog thing, or Sutekh as a social media influencer. I mean, sheesh.

Bummer that the last Doctor Who audios in my 'thon should be disappointments. Maybe I’m just tiring of them a bit, or maybe they’re just not to my taste.

Doctor Who done, but still a few Big Finish stories remaining.

Continuing through the 9DAs, finished the second two stories in Respond To All Calls over the last two nights. This box is so much more what I had in mind when I put my money down, but I do feel I was too harsh on Ravagers and it might’ve worked much better for me AFTER a box or two like this that actively attempt to get at the vibe of the 9th Doctor’s brief but indispensable TV era. Get me into the rhythm before you break it, is all.

I loved Girl, Deconstructed, a clean and clear story with a lot of room for recognizable human emotion and good 9th Doctor moments. I liked second story Fright Motif a little bit less. As a musician myself, I always like stories that use sound as the threat, but we have done it a few times before (Whispers Of Terror is one of the first five BF stories! And if anyone’s ever heard the 10th Doctor story Dead Air, that’s a fabulous and very creepy story performed by David Tennant that is actually one of my favorite 10 adventures in any medium!). The creatures here are a little bit unclear, and the resolution is a little rushed. There is some very good character stuff in it, however, all three guest characters are pretty well-drawn, but especially Maurice. The main problem for me is Damian Lynch’s American accent. This is an issue about 50% of the time BF attempt it (Invaders From Mars is almost totally unlistenable because of this), and I just would encourage them to set these things in Manchester (as writer Tim Foley says in the BTS was the original intention) rather than force a very good actor to do an accent he can’t nail for an hour, because it kind of ruins any attempt to get immersed in the drama. Not bad, like at all, just a few degrees away from really good. 3.5/5

Planet Of The End, on the other hand, I found pretty fantastic. It’s a very interesting story, with a fun campy set of villains in The Incorporation, a fabulous one-off companion in the AI Fred, and one really perfect bit of long game Doctor-y problem solving. This was exciting and funny and twisty and I had a real blast with it. I would very much like Fred back at some point. I haven’t heard a ton of Timothy X Atack’s stories, other than the Time War episode Jonah, which I really didn’t care for, this one I liked quite a bit, about on par with Girl, Deconstructed which was much more simple but very effective. 4/5

The World Traders. Only one episode in, and having a little trouble discerning if it’s a sequel or a prequel to The Sun Makers.

Relistening to The Lost Resort – aka the Doctor Who story that makes me cry the fastest. About 10 minutes in, when Dr. Beauregarde says this:

What a beautiful moment – one of my favourite lines from all of Who. And the Adric & Doctor scenes in this story are so heartbreaking.

Rounding off the end of the first volume of Tenth Doctor Adventures today with Death and the Queen by James Goss, whose name I hear whispered in elevated tones of reverence these days. It’s fun so far, nice bits of structural flair make the storytelling interesting, curious to see where it all goes. This whole box-set has been a quite delightful addition to Series 4, each of the stories so far feeling like they fit nicely into the tone and atmosphere of the period, effectively feeling like Russell T. Davies at his best. Perhaps Russell, like many of the luminaries before him, is just now in the period of his career where other writers are better at writing his sort of stories than he is. It happens to the best (and to the worst) of us.
