I remember enjoying Other Lives. I appreciated having a fun story after how heavy The Next Life was, and how depressing Terror Firma was.

The Settling is awesome.

I gave it 5/10. I get what they were going for but I just didn’t vibe with it at all. I’ll share more of my thoughts when we get to it in the audio club in a few weeks.

Oh no, that’s a great story!

I agree, I really like Other Lives. I really like that whole run, Terror Firma, Time Works, Something Inside, and especially Memory Lane, those are very unusual stories from other DW and from each other, I like how eclectic and eccentric that era is.

I love Other Lives. It was the first pure historical I ever completed and I didn’t even know they were a thing – I kept wondering when the aliens were going to turn up!

Decided to take a quick detour from the Main Range and I’m starting SSS!

I’m kinda in a bit of a quandary with all of these “Currently” topics (reading, watching, listening, playing). I’ve got lots of stuff I want to read/watch/listen/play, but never enough time or gumption to do so.

On the listening front I tend to have the most time/gumption because I listen while doing other things. That said, I still have a small handful I’m working on at the moment. I finished Gallifrey IE/EL over the weekend (more thoughts on that in the Gallifrey thread). I’m in the middle of Star Wars: Shadow of the Sith, and have The Twilight Kingdom and The Emporium at the End next on my Big Finish docket. It’s taking me forever on any long-form audiobooks because my Big Finish and the twice-weekly Doctor’s Beard podcast get in the way. I’ll post another “next Big Finish” poll later this afternoon.

Yes, I read your review of it

I seem to be in the minority on this one

Today I gave a listen to The Spectre of Laryan Moor and my god, what the hell? Is basically 2h of fluff, vistually nothing interesting happens and the plot just feels thrown out to our faces. 6 and Eve were lovely, loved how he and the brigadier interacted and 6s speech about keeping the mind open was brilliant, one of the best I’ve ever heard. But overall, this story is a stinker!!!

  1. Today was my second listen. My first one was yesterday, but I interrupted it several times, for so many reasons and couldn’t remember well what was happening before. ↩︎

  2. I literally have slept on the climax at my first go. Even listening to it again today, I can barely remember what the heck have happened ↩︎

I’ll never understand how it got rated in the top five (or something like that) when BF ran their “best audios for each Doctor” poll a few years ago.

I don’t think it’s the best my any means, but I enjoyed the time I spent listening to it. I think it’s one of those stories for me that I wouldn’t ever repeat but don’t regretting listening to :slightly_smiling_face:

Very engaging premise and setup, very lacklustre ending. At least there’s some gems of dialogue and interactions in there!

It got second place when put to a listener vote through Radio Times.

It’s amazing to me that, even disliking this story so much, the Doctor was SO spot on to me. I had a troblesome relationship with sixie watching his tenure, but I could see his shine. My appretiation for him is evergrowing and he might become one of my favorites, quite sooner then I expected

There’s a brazillian slang for how absurd this is, and it goes like this “é de cair o cu da bunda”

I can’t immediately argue with those results though, those are all great 6 main range eps! I haven’t listened to The Spectre Of Lanyon Moor in over a decade, but it was a firm favorite at the time. Maybe partly because BF did such an incredible job rejuvenating the entire 6 performance and it was such an unexpected surprise, and Evelyn is such a perfect companion for him, and he meets The actual one and only Brig here…it’s absolutely possible that we all liked it so much at the time because of what it was doing and how it was doing it, but I’d certainly believe a more recent listener that the story itself doesn’t come together as well as it could.
