Just listened to The Sontaran Project from UNIT: Encounters.
Little bit of music and then I moved on to Master.
Finished The Phoenix Strain which was great (but ended on a very awkward ‘toasting a dead guy’ scene.
The way we are having completely opposite opinions about this boxset, Phoenix was my least favourite of the four
Listening to the latest episode of David Tennant Does a Podcast With… Georgia Tennant Does a Podcast With… David Tennant.
That sounds fun!
Listened to “State of Bliss” and “The Famished Lands” from Time War 3 (Eighth Doctor) yesterday.
Both good, but not really spectacular. Both 3,5/5 territory for me. I like the way the Doctor and Bliss just travel around trying to stay out of the Time War but helping out where they can in these rather stand-alone stories.
I really struggled with this set of the Eighth Doctor Time War run. It’s probably time for a relisten of the whole lot but I’m behind on some stuff that’s been released.
I’ve still got the latest Paternoster Gang set, the most recent Susan’s War and I caved because of positive reactions and got Hooklight. I couldn’t be a Big Finish completist when they ramped up how much stuff they were putting out and I felt I’d move away from Davison, Colin and Sylv when new Doctors joined and I’d followed the main range for a while, dropping into their stuff when something interested me. Aside from special releases he’s part of, I haven’t bought a Fifth Doctor release for a very long time so I’m actually quite excited to get into Hooklight to be honest. Although bluetooth has packed up in my car which is where I mostly listen to my Big Finish so I need to work out a fix or get into a different habit.
Finished the audiobook of The Massacre last night. I was a bit ehhh on it - I think a combo of I didn’t really enjoy Peter Purves’ narration and I found Lucarotti’s prose to be a bit too dry didn’t help. Plus it’s like weirdly different from the TV story - an interesting one for sure!
I’m very much enjoying The Smugglers audiobook, really good atmosphere and i hope we see it animated soon
Even more Omega Factor for me today! And maybe some War Room later too
Is the podcast generally good in your opinion? I’ve been meaning to listen to it, but i haven’t gotten around to it yet.
It’s quite laid-back for the most part, essentially Tennant chatting with a guest about their life and career. It mostly depends on who he’s talking with. I haven’t listened to all the episodes, but I liked the ones with Catherine Tate, Ian McKellen, Michael Sheen, and RTD in particular. And this latest one was a fun twist, with Georgia interviewing David instead, and them talking about what their kids mean to them, etc.
Fabulous! I’ll listen to it soon!
Oh, also continued Paternoster Gang today with A Photograph to Remember. Good fun!
I’ve listened to a few with guests I like and they’ve all been fun listens. I want to listen to the Celia Imrie one at some point.
I’ve listened to the other two Time War 3 stories as well today.
“Fugitive in Time” was very much on par with the first two stories and I’ve rated that 3,5/5 as well.
“The War Valeyard” had a really good plot and a lovely storyline for the Valeyard and the Eighth Doctor, but it could have done with a bit more oomph on the dialogue front. Still I would say that that is the best story from Time War 3. 4/5 there.
One day I’ll continue with Call Me Master
That was such a lovely hour!
Was listening to the audiobook of Doctor Who and the Zarbi earlier. It does do some different things with the story - the capture of the Doctor and Ian by the Zarbi is much more involved for example. It’s a rather lovely version, I think.
