Continued with The Myth Makers novelisation audiobook, and enjoying it immensely! It’s the best version of the story!

I also listened to a couple of chapters of Pull to Open, but it’s a bit more dry, so it’s not something I fancy listening to a lot.

And I started my next Benny set, Ruler of the Universe with The City and the Clock, which was a strong opening mostly thanks to the amazing chemistry between Bowerman and Warner.

Dang, is Benny truly better than River? :scream:

Comments about her being a fairly bland character. This is from 2020 though so I’ll just hope they’ve seen the error of their ways in the intervening years.

Listened to ‘The Zygon who Fell to Earth’ today.

Always nice to see a story that runs contrary to the idea of evil races / species. This one hit some real emotional notes I wasn’t expecting. I can see why it’s one of the more beloved lucie stories.

I vaguely remember that one. Aunt Pat IIRC. (Mind you, me vaguely remembering is a mark that it was rather memorable indeed, as most stories are complete blanks to me)

And yeah, I agree. That’s one thing I really liked about The Curse of Peladon, turning expectations on their head.

I’ve been listening to Toby Hadoke’s podcast Too Much Information while slowly making my way through Hartnell’s run. Awfully, I’m now all caught up! His most recent episode was for The Snows of Terror. I’m going to have to wait until the next one comes out!

I love this podcast, too– discovering the history of 60s Who in intricate detail is not only interesting but really calming, too. Maybe it’s Hadoke’s voice or lovely attitude. I love it!

I’ve really gone off Doctor Who podcasts but this one sounds interesting, I might have to give it a try.

Finally finished The Monster’s Bones. Good book primarily about Barnum Brown, Henry Fairfield Osborn, and the discovery of T. rex. It’s also a bit about the origins of modern (1800s-present) paleontology covering topics such as Richard Owen (who coined the word “dinosaur”), early discoveries in England, the origins of the American Natural History Museum in New York, the “Bone Wars” and other similar topics. It’s a decent book and a fairly expansive biography of Brown with events that don’t appear on the fossil hunter’s Wikipedia page.

I forgot to mention yesterday, but yesterday I listened to

Twisted Folklore - 6/10 (Spoilers)

I want to like this story a lot more than I ended up doing.

Colonization through storytelling, using ‘soft power’ to shape a culture to your own desires, brilliant, I absolutely love it. I also love that this story makes use of it’s cast really well, splitting everyone up on their own so they can each play their own part in helping take down Divine Intervention here.

But this just doesnt’ feel like Stranded anymore, it feels like an 8th Doctor story. I was loving the paired down nature of that first stranded set, I’d listen to a full season of that, and we’re just not going back to that setting at all anymore?

Also you’re doing a full story on colonisation… where are Zakia and Aisha? On the one hand, narratively I can understand not bringing them on this mission, but a framing device with them at least. You have two characters of Indian decent living in the UK, and you do a story all about colonisation, and then don’t use it as an opportunity to reflect on British atrocities, or just do literally anything with them, that’s just a missed opportunity.

Agree with all of this. Twisted Folklore was a story I wanted to love– the idea is brilliant, and just look at that title! But I just don’t think it was executed very well.

I like your idea of involving Zakia and Aisha.

Hadoke’s podcasts are brilliant but the gaps between the Too Muches are getting longer and longer and I might be dropping my patronship. I really like the patron-exclusive Far Too Much Informations but they are even more sparsely spread out and there hasn’t been an Indefinable Magic for a fair while. I like the commentary ones but they aren’t really what I signed up for.

More Bride of Peladon - Phyllida Law is so good in this and then we’ve also got Jenny Agutter (although she’s just a whispering voice at the moment) and Yasmin (Jabe/Roz Forrester/BF Dayna) Bannermen.

On the flipside we also have Nick Briggs as both an Ice Lord and a guard. And yes, they actually had a scene together…

Just listened to two more stories from The New Adventures of Bernice Summerfield Vol. 1.
“Good Night, Sweet Ladies” and “Random Ghosts”

Both good stories, but after “Random Ghosts” I never want to hear another Beeeep :wink:

Lisa Bowerman is just such a treasure :+1:

I met Phyllida Law once. She spoke at a charity conference I attended. Can’t remember a single thing about it though! She had a fun but zen prescence.

I wanted to listen to the next Benny story.
But instead I ended up listening to the two Narvin stories from “Echoes Through Eternity” for a third time
And I couldn’t leave it at that so I listened to “Erasure” once more

By Coldstream’s Teeth are those Gary Russell and Seán Carlsen one-two punch short trips A.M.A.Z.I.N.G :tada::tada::tada:
