Just finished Neverland, which was very good. I hadn’t listened to anything Romana’s been in for Big Finish, so this was a treat to hear her and 8 together. I’ve been hopping arround a bunch of the first 50 monthly range. I’m 3/4 through Colditz, and I agree with some of the criticisms. It’s still pretty good though.
I’m listening to Ravenous 1 which is unfortunately a big step down from Doom Coalition so far… I’m so bored of The Eleven by now as well…
yeah unfortunately the Eleven and the Nine’s ‘woah hehe I’m sooo evil’ schtick gets old pretty fast. The Twelve however is p interesting (but I cannot remember when she actually shows up)
Isn’t that The Union?
oh yeah, kind of! I forgot all about them haha - the Twelve is mainly in the 8 Time War stuff
No. The Union is The Thirteen. The Twelve is played by Julia McKenzie and appears in The Eighth Doctor: Time War Volumes 2 & 4.
Oh ok, my bad! I haven’t heard Time War yet
No Problem. There’s so much stuff and only so much time.
hooray!!! I have finally reached Robophobia! After 149 eps, it’s about time I hit one I like
I want to say something about this, but I won’t for fear of spoilers. Just know that there is more to say, and things get much better very quickly (at least, in my opinion)
Thanks. I had a sneak peek at review scores for the rest of the sets and it does get better, with the end of the series getting really high scores. I’ll hang in there. I’ve got this far, and I’m determined to listen to everything from the Eighth Doctor
A combo of William Russell’s and Jean Marsh’s retirements, the passing of Deborah Waitling, and Elliot Chapman’s hesitance to not “overtake” Michael Craze’s run as Ben meaning that the only TARDIS teams left are Vicki and Steven or Steven and Dodo for One and Jamie and Zoe for Two.
Ah, I don’t think I’d factored in Russell and Marsh retiring.
I finished Classic Doctors, New Monsters volumes 3 and 4 yesterday and today.
Together in Eclectic Dreams and If I Should Die Before I Wake feature the Dream Crabs. The first one, with Sixie, is dreamy, a bit messy but pretty interesting, and I like the one-off companion here and Paul McGann’s clever guest role. That one is 8/10 for me.
The latter story is one of my favourites from recent years, as it sees Eight and Charley battle the Dream Crabs through various bedtime stories and old legends with plenty of twists and some of India Fisher’s best acting in the role. It’s a 10/10 for me!
The latest set is pretty solid as well. The first two stories are 7/10 for me: Invasion of the Body Snatchers is creepy but pretty familiar and lacks interesting characters; The Queen of Clocks is a bit confusing but has a very palpable atmosphere, a great cast, and several interesting ideas.
The last two stories are essentially a two-parter featuring the Silents, both pretty similar and surprisingly character-centred. They both have great music and sound effects, making the Silents very effective, and I liked how well Seven went up against them in the last one. The Silent Priest is an 8/10, and The Silent City is a 7/10.
Next up is Red Dawn for the Audio Club tomorrow!
Wow, some really high ratings, I’m looking forward to listening to those!
(But I feel I should have more experience with the Classic Doctors and companions before I dive into those sets…)
Taking a little break from Gallifrey. Currently doing Scratchman read by Tom Baker. Done with Book 1 The Long Night, will finish the rest tomorrow. Horror story on an island with scarecrows that are more than you are expecting. So far enjoyable and surprise I listen to as much as I did today.
So i listened yesterday ‘The Well-Manered War’ and i was left confused by the ending, because in the novel adaptations set there’s no more audios with Fourth Doctor, so where the hell does that cliffhanger follow? In a book or maybe another audio?
Is that the randomiser cliffhanger?
As I understand it, that was Gareth Roberts cheeky way of suggesting that everything after Season 17 is not ‘real’ Doctor Who.
The week planed out: in a twist from normal, going to listen to all of Red Dawn today for audio club and then onto the final bit of Two/Ben/Polly/Jamie audios this week with The Forbidden Time, The Selachian Gambit, House of Cards, The Yes Men, The Night Witches, The Outliers, The Morton Legacy, (a brief stopover to read Card Conundrum from The Many Lives of Doctor Who one shot), and finishing out with The Home Guard. A lot of listening but that’s what commute and cleaning house before my parents come in on Friday is for!
Been making my way through the 8th Doctor’s audios while working on a commission featuring him. Finished Neverland today and I’m very excited to finally listen to Zagreus! I’ll probably end up making my way through at least a few 8th Doctor Adventures tomorrow as I finish up the drawing.
