Whilst it might not be everyone’s favourite story, one thing that The Web Planet is often acknowledged for is the ambition of its alien species - the Zarbi, the Menoptera, the Venom Grubs.

Not surprisingly, Vortis and its denizens have reappeared in the expanded universe of the show - as far back as the 60s Annuals and TV Comic strips.

What are some of your favourite return trips to Vortis?

I’m rather fond of ‘On the Web Planet’ which is TV Comic’s return to the planet and the DWM Yearbook comic strip The Naked Flame. The audio Return to the Web Planet is fun too.

Less fun, a rather dull read, is the Missing Adventure Twilight of the Gods,

I do find it funny that almost all of the ‘return to Vortis’ stories (all but one) have a higher rating than The Web Planet though

I was kinda disappointed that the Vespiform - giant wasp creature in the fourth series episode The Unicorn and the Wasp - wasn’t from Vortis.

I personally found Twilight of the Gods delightful rather than dull; I greatly enjoy both it and the original TV story. The only other story on Vortis I’ve experienced is Return to the Web Planet, which I found forgettable.

I haven’t read or listened to any other stories set on Vortis, because I’m still scarred by the original.

I remember reading that apparently the Zarbi and Vortis were meant to appear in a cut opening sequence for TLORS… what we could have had…
