Updates to the forum composer (typing posts)

There have been some updates to the forum composer (the box you type in when creating posts) which has caused some confusion - here are some tips!

Rich Text

The new default typing mode is “Rich text”, which should be a more familiar typing style. When you make things italic or bold you’ll see the changes straight away, no code needed. It also removes the need for a separate preview window.

If you prefer to go back to how it was, click the icon which switches between that mode and “Markdown” which is the code used before:

Missing Buttons on mobile?

It may look at first glance that some buttons are missing, because there is now only one line. But it’s been made into a scrollable toolbar - this allows us to fit even more buttons in without having rows and rows of them, which take up valuable screen space!

Slide it across with your finger to reveal more buttons. You can also now always have the “more buttons” enabled (via the “plus” button) and they won’t take up any extra space!

Smaller buttons and icons

The buttons and icons for various things have been made smaller, again to fit more in the limited space. This should just be something you will eventually get used to!

Please let me know if you have any more concerns.

Yeah, switched back to the old typing mode immediately. Spoilers are difficult to type with the rich text mode.

I have pointed that out to the forum developers (I don’t like how it always puts them on a new line) and they are working on it!

I had that problem too, right now.

In fact, they have already fixed the bug, I just need to install another patch :tada:

Oh so that’s why I couldn’t work out how to do spoilers on mobile, never realised it was a scrollable bar
