TV Club: Torchwood - Greeks Bearing Gifts

It would make sense if that brought the group closer together, but it doesn’t. Except for the fact that Gwen and Owen are horny for each other, no one cares for the others. Oh, and that Tosh likes Owen for no reason.

That is true. I watched a lot of Mad Men and there are no likeable characters there. The thing is that when the stories are bad (and that is how I feel about most of seasons 1 and 2) and the characters are just unlikeable if boring, then I find it hard to find a reason to watch.

I don’t think that it is true. They don’t feel like real people to me at all. Their characterisation is just flat and uninteresting. They mostly feel like horney teens in grown-up bodies.

Too little, too late. His redemption arc is just 1 or 2 episodes, just to make us care a little when he dies. Spoiler: the only feeling I got was relief that I don’t need to watch him anymore.

Absolutely loved that we have a Tosh centric episode, I still rate it quite highly despite the out of nowhere transphobic spiel from Jack that honestly should have gotten Whithouse blacklisted from the main show (and I like pretty much all of his stories!)

It is nice to see a lesbian relationship depicted on tv, even a short lived manipulative one

Tosh and Ianto are my favourites :sob::sob:

This Episode does come very middle down the Road for me.
There are Things I like here, the Story itself is quite solid and it being focused on Tosh is another great Addition. It does have a certain kind of X-Files Touch to it, which I like!

That said, I think the bad really does bring it down. The Editing is hard to follow and feels at times very random & bafflingly. And I don’t think I need to mention Jack’s whole transphobic Comment, that just leaves a bad Taste in my Mouth.

I can see why one would love this Episode, it has some Things to like, but the bad bring it down quite a bunch. 2.5/5

Uh @delta, what does Return to the Web Planet have to do with Torchwood?

Why would anyone like Owen? :sob:

I know! Owen takes away so much of my enjoyment from this series!

I tried to like him once , didn’t work

I absolutely loved your review! I always thought the whole Gwen and Owen thing was “an adult show forces itself to look more “adult”” , which doesn’t work in my opinion. The whole concept of “Children of Earth” for example , felt more of a mature theme to me because of how dark it was , I love Torchwood more when it doesn’t try so hard to prove itself to be darker

I don’t like him personally but I did kinda appreciate him in “Ghost Machine” though. It does show he has morals indeed but it’s rather complicated

I think that his action in Ghost Machine is more of a problem with inconsistent writing than showing that he has morals. But that might just be me…

Yeah he still comes off as edgy

Just watched this last night lol. Definitely interesting, but after Countrycide, I don’t think it hit the highs I wanted. I loved the mind reading stuff and I do like how this series portrays queer relationships effortlessly.

He was becoming my favorite after Ghost Machine, I thought he was about to get an arc about learning not to be a creep, but he’s back down on my list after Cyberwoman and Countrycide, and this episode did him no favors. He’s gross.

He is the worst character in the Whoniverse.

“What does that say about me that I know [sleeping with Owen and cheating on my parter] is wrong, yet I know I’m not going to stop?”
It means you’re a bad person Gwen, it’s pretty straightforward
