Also with how chunky they are, you never forget that there’s a human body in there, even with it being fully covered in metal… Until smiths era when theres the head guarding the pandorica and they just use them as generic robots

It’s true. Not @handles though, he’s special.

The first time I watched this, it broke my heart. Unfortunately, having now experienced so much more Doctor Who, it doesn’t quite hold up that well anymore. There’s better tragedies, this is, at times, a bit too dramatic. Still, there’s a lot of good stuff to it. Both Daleks and Cybermen are portrayed pretty well in this story, Torchwood is interesting and one day I’ll really have to listen to those Torchwood one audios because I’d like to see it more fleshed out. Jackie is really good in this and provides both a wonderful outside view on Rose as a companion and some very nice scenes when she and Pete meet each other. Something I really liked were Rose’s scenes with the Daleks, those really show how far she’s come. Also love that she is always precisely on eye level with the Daleks, makes those scenes way more intense. (I read somewhere that they intentionally designed the new who daleks on her eye level, but I’m not quite sure on that.) I do think there’s some good humor in this, too. The music is really, really amazing and helps sell the drama. I do think this finale achieves it’s main purpose, which is to provide a heartbreaking companion exit for viewers who have only just been introduced to the series. It doesn’t hold up that well on more experience, but you have to start somewhere.

It’s all been downhill since The Tenth Planet

& this shows how different opinions can be. For me this era’s Cybermen just look like big robots. Partly nostalgia I’m sure but I prefer the old Earthshock ones, they look like humans augmented with cyber tech.

I love the Earthshock Cybermen with their transparent jaws.

So, this is a weird place for me to join the TV club, but I did not have time before because I was juggling work and school. Now that my final exams and papers are in, I am ready to participate.
Wow, David Tennant looks so young. I liked the introduction of the Cult of Skaro and Jackie and Pete’s reunion. It seems that I am in the minority in disliking Yvonne, but perhaps not in the minority in disliking Rose. Certainly not flawless, but a pretty decent conclusion to the Doctor and Rose’s time together. Overall, I enjoyed rewatching this more than I had anticipated.

Yay! Welcome onboard!

The Jackie/Peter reunion is a highlight moment in the episode for me!

Remember, there’s no time limit on these if you feel like commenting on previous ones.

Fair enough. It just feels odd earning a club badge when I’m not commenting within the timeframe when the bulk of participants were.

Nah, it’s all good!

I’m way behind on Audio club, and not done anything for Book Club

Oh and very slowly making my way through Classic TV Club

Yup. I’m ten behind in Audio Club, really only did Series 1 in TV Club, did a handful of early Book Club, and only did the first year of Tennant in Comic Club.

I think there’s only one word I can use to describe the Earthshock Cybermen, and that’s, “excellent” (and you all just heard that in Banks’s voice)

The badges are just for fun anyway so go ahead and make those comments whenever you feel ready.

Thats fine, it can also revive a thread about a story.

Says the one who pressures Shauny the most into creating new badges - including boring ones, like the Peladon badge
