Time Lord Victorious

How hard is it to complete TLV? I already have Defender if the Daleks #2, and that’s it.

If there weren’t books I’d be right on it, but I’m bad at motivating myself to read a lot of the time (getting better, but still

Yeah, to be honest its the books that are putting me off too. My ‘to read’ list is enormous and the TLV books weren’t anywhere near the top of it (and I don’t even own them yet).

This said, it can’t hurt to give it a shot

The Dawn of the Kotturuh - 7/10

James Goss starting us off is always a good sign, and this story, while short, is a great start to the event.

The imagery and intrigue pull you right in and definitely make you want to see more, and for how short the story is and how alien everyone is, the characterisation is still really good.

The Guide to the Dark Times - 6/10

More a teaser trailer than anything, listing the different groups you can expect to see from the event and how they fit in.

I do like the details they retcon in here though about how the other peoples we know of from the dark times fit in here, how the daemons fought, the eternals fled, the racnoss hid, and Sutekh and The Great Vampires made a deal.

There’s that thing you get in a lot of stories where to show off how big and strong a new threat is, you have them come in and easily beat up the old threat, and that’s basically what this is, but with some fun worldbuilding. I always love it when the whoniverse deals with death as a concept and I think it works well here

Woohoo, another one joins the Dark Side (whoops! I mean Times!).

We’ll reserve a spot for you on the Scandianvia Victorious picture @JayPea. You can be the Dalek, the Ood or Rose (Mr. Ball is reserved ;))

I clearly need to hurry up with TLV so I can get on that poster

I thought there’d be a requirement that you are Scandinavian to get on that particular poster!

We can take on others as companions

Well, so far following @Tian’s guide, I’m up to He kills me, He kills me not. I enjoyed the novel, DALEKS, and the short trip, so I’m excited to continue with this, especially as it’s a chance to listen to more eight. I wonder if RTD took inspiration from The Kotturuh’s “Gift of Death” for TLoRS/EoD

Finished He kills me, He kills me not. Simple story, but enjoyable nonetheless. Love some camp western accents, and I liked Silas Carlson as Brian, who is just as enjoyable as he is in the novel.

Next up, The Enemy of my Enemy

(Not a fan of an Eight story using the War Master theme)

No, no! We are Scandinavians! We love foreigners! The only requirement is that you accept that Scandinavia is Victorious

Lesser Evils - 8/10

I’m always a sucker for this sort of character driven piece, when you boil it down, this story is essentially just a 30 minute conversation between The Master and a Kotturuh woman, but in reality it’s so much more.

We get to see a calmer side of the Tremas Master that at least I’ve not experienced much on screen, he tends to be a lot more high energy, actively scheming rather than here where he is, but he’s a lot more subtle about it.

The worldbuilding here is also great, I love how much detail you get about the Mungello and their society, the slower pace really helps you feel a part of the world as you learn more about it, and the ambiance really adds to it.

Plus, Jon Culshaw’s narration is just great. He really does such a great job with The Master here, you can really tell their mood which is great, and his voice generally is just perfect for this slower paced, almost soothing story.

Honestly, I’m glad I’ve started this journey just so I could experience that, I loved that story

Yeah, I was surprised to find out that there are a couple of really great stories in this event, and following the guide gave the event itself much more context and helped make a sense of it.

I have decided to start TLV (using the order @Tian has supplied to the site)!

I’ll be kicking things off with Dawn of the Kotturuh!

Woohoo! It’s quite a ride with stories of varying quality! But it’s loads of fun and won’t leave you scarred like K9 does!
