Theoretical UNIT Master return

I’ve been hearing some rumours (take these with a huuuge grain of salt), that The UNIT Master (Originally played by Roger Delgado) is soon set to make a full cast appearance on Big Finish’s roster. What do you guys think/want from this revival and who do you think would kill it in the role? Personally I don’t like Culshaw’s impression of Him, so I hope it’s someone fresh.

I think he’s good but I’d rather the stories weren’t Culshaw speaking to Culshaw over and over again…

In general though, I’d welcome a return for this master!

Culshaw does a pretty cracking Ainley imo, but when it’s him talking to himself, alla Auton Infinity, it is rather noticeable haha

I haven’t heard much of Culshaw’s Impression as the UNIT Master. But from what I heard of it, I think it’s fine really. As for a possible Return, maybe full time… hmm I have mixed thoughts on it.

I personally think, I wouldn’t mind too much if they left this Incarnation untouched. As much as I love him and think he is easily one of the very best Incarnations of the Character, I do think they have already quite a few Masters, which they could play around with. Of course, this Version of the Master was such a strong Presence in the Pertwee Era and if the Story is fun/good enough, I totally don’t mind it then. But I am also not sure, it’s kinda hard for me to properly articulate why I am less open to the Idea than I am with recasting certain Doctors or Companions.

I suppose part of me wonders a little why recast another Incarnation of the Master for Audio Dramas, when you already got quite a few others. I guess it’s more a me-thing, but I do have a hard time seeing anybody else trying their crack at Delgado’s Master, while we have plenty of other Master Actors available, who deserve more Stories to their Names such as MacQueen or Roberts. But that’s just me, maybe if I hear said Impression or know what the Story is, then I might be more open to the Idea, but for now it kinda just leaves me a bit “cold”, I guess?

(Gosh I hope I make sense with my ramble :sob:)

Completely get you, what I think is gonna be the biggest problem is having someone that bounces off Tim as much as Delgado bounced off Pertwee, all while it being a convincing enough recreation of the character

Well, I really like the Delgado Master, so I’m up for it as long as they use him right and cast someone who can sound and feel similar enough. They shouldn’t use him just because they think that it would be cool to have the original Master back. He should feel like a natural part of the story, the same way other elements they’re been using in the 3DAs have.

As for who should voice him, I don’t know. Preferably not Culshaw, though. Let’s keep him on Brigadier duty. They could find someone completely unknown, like they did with Carley for the War Doctor recast, as long as the person comes close enough.

To me the biggest importance is the chemistry between the Doctor and Master, but Tim seems to get along with everyone so that really shouldn’t be an issue
