The Who Shop

So, the main reason I’ve been afk the last few days is because I was traveling for a short term study abroad trip to London (I’ve slept like ten hours over the last two days). Anyway, there’s a bunch of stuff I’m excited to do, but something that that got recommended to me was The Who Shop/Museum. Has anyone been? I’m probably going to go regardless just to see it, but interested to hear people’s thoughts.

I haven’t been, but I’m planning to go this year, it looks really good!

I would say it’s good but if you’re based more centrally I’d say probably go to Forbidden Planet instead. They have plenty of Doctor Who books, merch, audio dramas and comics but it’s in a nicer, more accessible part of London.

I went to forbidden planet yesterday! Dragged some people in my group there after patiently waiting for them to finish clothes shopping. It was very exciting to see so much doctor who merchandise in person lol. You have to order basically anything where I’m from.

The Who Shop was part of my early days of fandom when it was in a shop directly opposite East Ham tube station. I went to my first signing there back in the 1990s! It’s where I met people like Jon Pertwee, Katy Manning, Nabil Shaban and Verity Lambert for the first time (among, many, many others). We used to get some really strange looks queuing outside the shop. This was when the show wasn’t the phenomenon it is now.

The owners have run it for a very long time and have had lots of events over the years.

I will say though that their prices are quite steep. The majority of what they have you can get for much less elsewhere.

They do have a little museum though with original props and costumes from the show.

I’ve never been, but I want to go. It’s always just out of the way when we are in London.

But a relative of mine said it’s a travesty that I spend all my time in London doing what everyone else wants to do and I never get to go there, so next time he’s going to go with me

Enjoy and let us know how it goes!

It’s actually quite awkward to get to. Their old shop was, as I say, directly opposite the tube station but was VERY small. Their new one is much bigger but quite out of the way transport-wise (I seem to remember it’s a bus ride from the station or a very long walk but it’s been years since I went).

I think I went once or twice in the old location when I was a lot younger, but havne’t been to the new one

I live in london, but it’s awkward and out of the way for me

Still, keep meaning to go, some time this year maybe!

So I wasn’t able to go to the museum but I made it to the shop, and it was pretty neat! I would have loved to go to the museum, but my schedule has been so crazy that I was never able to call ahead and request a slot during opening hours. I only made it to the shop on my last day in London. Even though I didn’t get to go in the museum, the novelty of just being in the shop was cool. There’s not really anywhere near where I’m from that you can do something like that.
