The War Games - In Colour (announcement)

Just announced the next ‘In Colour’

For the first time, these original episodes have been meticulously colourised and enhanced with updated visual effects edited into a new, 90-minute feature-length experience to appeal to today’s modern audiences. With updated sound and a new score, this newly updated version of The War Games offers both fans and newcomers even more ways to watch the much-loved classic story.

In addition, the episode will also feature the Second Doctor’s never-before-seen regeneration into the Third Doctor (Jon Pertwee), alongside recovered footage not seen since the original broadcast.

Emphasis mine

I’m interested to see how they cut it down, and also interesting that they’re explicitly regenerating Two into Three, seemingly trying to ignore 6B?

90 minutes???

I like that they did a second doctor story for this. He deserves more attention!

Hmm. This could go really well, or really badly…

This is the most interesting part!

I’m sorry but the time lords in blue feels wrong to me

That shot of the TARDIS Team looks incredible though, you’d neve guessed it was colourised

Oooh super excited for this!

Probably RTD trying to emphasise that Fugitive is pre-Hartnell?

90 minutes!!! That’s a LOT being cut down!

What is 6B?

Some people think that because we never actually saw 2 regenerate into 3 that there was a whole secret season in between 6 and 7, called 6B, where the Fugitive Doctor could have come.

Despite the show completely contradicting this, they want to believe it because they hate the idea of a woman coming before Hartnell lol

That is just dumb… there is nothing that indicates that.

That seals the deal. I love this already!!!

But… But what about those TV Comic strips?

I’m skeptical of the 90 minute cut for what I think is a remarkably well-paced story for it’s length, but I loved the Daleks colorization and I’m very excited for this because it’s my second favorite Doctor Who story and even if the cut is shorter than I might like it will be a new way for me to enjoy it (without dedicating 4 hours to it!) and make it more accessible to people who are too daunted by a 10-parter

We never saw The Massacre. I think that the Fugitive came during episode two where the Doctor is missing! The doctor regenerated and then regenerated back…

There’s some contradictions in 2’s later appearances that lend some credibility to the theory of 6B, and I think it was a neat theory for where Fugitive could fit in after Fugitive of the Judoon, but I think holding onto the idea that Fugitive goes there instead of before 1 after TTC is really stupid

Oh this seems really cool!

I am very split with this announcement, on one hand the coloring looks splendid, as it did when they did “The Daleks” last year.
However, I am skeptical about the runtime of 90 Minutes with this one. While I love the original Story, it makes sense to cut it down, not sure if 90 Minutes was the right call with this one, but we will see.
Minor Spoilers for the War Games below:

Going off by the information and especially the trailer, it seems that we will get a regeneration in the style of nuwho, which is kinda my biggest issue. I get it the golden glowing is the default, but do we really have to get this fully fleshed out with a classic doctor? I get there is an appeal to have something official fill the gap, but for me, two’s “regeneration” is just really special and dark for such a comedic incarnation. Him suddenly spinning into a total nothing and him shouting “No no no” just does it for me. Having a regeneration and one which seems to go a similar route as the ones we have seen in the last few years just is kinda boring to me and takes away from his last moments.

Oh, well maybe I am a bit cynical since the last Colorization really didn’t work for me, but I am happy to be proven wrong and loving this one!

To be fair, the season 6B theory existed way before the Fugitive Doctor- it was created in the 90s as a way to explain why Two and Jamie appear older in The Two Doctors.

It’s also the premise of the novels Players and World Game by Terrence Dicks, Big Finish’s Second Doctor Adventures with Micheal Troughton, and I think a few short stories. It must have been later co-opted by those kinds of fans of which you mention :frowning: .

and why, in The Five Doctors, 2 knows how Jamie and Zoe left him, even though he regenerated minutes after that happened
