While we have a couple of video game threads already here on the forum (such as the “What are you currently playing?” and “Nintendo Switch 2” ones), we don’t have a thread for more general discussion of gaming news, reveals and updates, so I thought it would be nice to create one where people can share and discuss anything they think is exciting or that other users may want to know about. It could also be helpful to post reviews from other sites here when new games release, in case anyone wants more information on a particular game before taking the plunge.
This week, it’s the Tokyo Game Show (TGS), and there has already been a deluge of new game announcements and updates:
TGS is still ongoing for the rest of the week, so it’s likely there will be more announcements and updates - I’ll post anything else that’s particularly noteworthy. If anyone else has any gaming news or happenings they want to discuss, please post them here!
Agreed, I love Yakuza 3, even if it is the most dated entry in the series nowadays - hopefully the remake goes a long way towards rehabilitating its image (but who cares if not, it’s more Yakuza and we’re getting playable Mine!).
Wolverine does look very good. I’m a bit over Marvel and Uncharted-esque games these days, but I’ll be interested to see more of it.
Based on the last trailer, I assume this is pretty far off unfortunately. I haven’t played any Persona games in a long time, but I have quite a bit of nostalgia from playing Persona 4 as a teenager, so I might be tempted to pick it up when it releases. The modern turn-based Yakuza games have really filled that niche for me personally though.
Jurassic World Evolution 3 releases tomorrow. I know what I’ll be doing for the foreseeable future. 86 species (plus an additional four if you get the Deluxe Edition), and most importantly, Babies! I expect I’ll be taking a lot of screenshots and posting them in the dinosaur thread.
Since we’re well into E3 (rip) season now, a roundup of all the big reveals so far:
Speaking personally, there’s definitely some stuff I’m excited about here - Final Fantasy VII: Revelation, God of War: Laufey and Control: Resonant are all games I’ll be looking to play. Is there anything anyone else is particularly excited about?
It was a big one for me. Obviously the three you said, especially Revelation, but also Guild Wars 3 is another huge win for me. Sadly Stranger than Heaven self-sabotaged my excitement a little bit. Day of the Devs didn’t have as many instant wishlists for me as usual, but I really liked Tenebris Sombria, Dreadmoor, and Apple Crumble.
Edit, oh and DLCs for First Light and Mafia Old Country!
I had a similar reaction on this one, normally I’m all over the Yakuza games but this one isn’t quite doing it for me yet, plus all the weirdness with casting dead people is a bit icky. It doesn’t help that spring next year is SO stacked release-wise! I’m not not interested, but I’ll probably wait for reviews and then play it down the line rather than at release.
I totally forgot about this one, largely because my brain refuses to believe it’s actually coming out after so many long silences with no news I love the original Wolf Among Us, so fingers crossed this time the sequel is happening for real.
Yeah the Tupac thing for me is probably the main contributing factor. I’ve been learning for the next mainline game which this feels like it discreetly is, so I’ll remain positive, but some bizarre decisions.
There were a couple of smaller events yesterday - I didn’t watch them in full, but I spotted a few sci-fi games that look interesting:
I’ve been following Exodus since it started development, so it’s exciting to see it coming close to release. I’m pretty much entirely checked out of Star Wars these days, but Zero Company looks like fun. Shadow Frontier is the bonkers one to me, a Star Trek horror game, and the main character is apparently an existing character from TNG - very cool!
Ooh, interesting! It’s been ages since I’ve seen anything Spyro, with Xbox owning that series now I’d assumed nothing was really going to happen with it, so it’s good to read I’m wrong. They put most of their stuff on all platforms nowadays, so I think you should probably be alright.
