Just posted my review on this story, read if you like! But overall it is probably my favourite of the series so far, and I am so glad to see this range thriving as much as it is!

I think this might be my favourite 13DA yet. One of the best takes on Capitalism is bad, and all the characters felt real. I was genuinely sad when Megan died. Of the stories I’ve heard from her, Rochana Patel seems to be a brilliant writer

Best 13DA yet. As someone who dislikes a lot of her TV era I’m loving how the audios have been giving 13 and Yaz an actual relationship to develop and not the last minute deeply buried subtext of a relationship becoming text. It’s also doing a lot in the hour but doesn’t fall into the general problem of one hour stories feeling underdeveloped.

I am LOVING the sound design on this story, I agree it’s probably my favourite 13DA yet

Well…enjoyable but didn’t quite live up to my expectations from this writer. I do still think the music is a real weak point.

Interesting to see that music is an issue for other people. The only BF song which has stuck out to me is “Basically, Run!”, Eleven’s theme in the Eleventh Doctor Chronicles. Otherwise, everything fades together.

I really liked that one! There is a lot going on in it, but I felt like it only set up as many plot points as it could handle in an hour (with the exception of the arc bit, of course, keep watching this space lol). Not exactly scary, but nice intense Aliens action plus some always welcome corporate satire. I also was genuinely sad when Megan died, I know they have a conversation about it in the end and The Doctor tells Yaz not to give in to retribution right after (lovely speech) but I did still feel like it could’ve had a little more impact. The sound design was really nice. A little above Return Of The Doctor for me, like an even 4/5!

So, I’ve always thought “shipping” culture was weird, and the people who take part in it to have a bit of a screw loose - who cares if character A from a TV show hooks up with character B? You may as well be debating what their favourite kitchen utensil is. Is a waste of time.

HAVING SAID THAT… the way I swooned:

YAZ: She had… she had a crush on me.

DOCTOR: Well she’s got impeccable taste, though, ‘asn’t she?

They’re so cute. 13/Yaz forever.

They’ve got me by the strings. Well done, Big Finish.

Absolutely adored this one.

Loved the anti-capitalism stuff, although it would have been much better if the villain was instead a low level worker who was radicalised by piss-poor working conditions…

Wowsers, this is really good! Probably my favourite so far, it inches slightly ahead of Vampire Weekend on the strength of the character writing and the fact that it’s a Thirteen story which largely doesn’t pull any punches, which is what I’ve been hoping for for a long time. Also, it’s a bit of a middle finger to the denouement of Kerblam!, which I definitely approve of. Four and a half stars and a favourite, hopefully this isn’t the only one Rochana Patel has written in this range.

Pretty good, I’d say. Not as good as I’d hoped. I was a bit tired today, which I think might hsve impacted my enjoyment of the things I listened to today. I agree that it’s obe of the better 13DAs so far.

A strong Thirteenth Doctor audio with effective horror elements, welcome focus on Yaz’s police background, and thoughtful themes about war and exploitation. However, it leaves intriguing settings underexplored, underuses its monsters and supporting cast, and occasionally stumbles with exposition-heavy dialogue and slightly uneven performances.

Here’s my spoilery review for those who fancy a read. Thanks!

Just finished it. A few faults here and there, but pretty good overall, and perhaps the strongest of the range so far. 8/10

Oh no, I accidentally a Yaz mini-essay

Great review! I could not agree harder with everything you’ve written about Yaz in this one - definitely one of the strongest parts of the story for me (that, and putting Thirteen in an anti-capitalist story where she doesn’t 180 into being pro-capitalist at the end), and I’m really hoping we continue to see her developed beyond her TV run in the remaining releases.

I really agree about the arms dealer section, this one felt like it would’ve really liked to be a straight up old school 4-parter, and I think it definitely had enough story!
