PRAPILLUS: Their deeds shall be sung in the Temples of Light. Pictos shall remind us of a time as it circles Vortis. Every time it points to the Needle of the Kings, as it does now, then we shall weave songs to praise the gods of light and thank them that they sent the Earth people to save us from the Animus.
I have just completed a rewatch of The Web Planet in an attempt to find what it is about the story that prompts me to defend it against its detractors. I had a lot of fun with a story I’ve probably watched more times than is healthy and it’s resulted in me sitting here thinking that I want to do a follow up to my Peladon Tales mini-project and listen to/read/experience all the Vortis-based stories than spun off from this story into the Expanded Universe.
Most of these I have read or listened to before but not in such close proximity to having watched the OG story so it will be interesting to see how well they build on and develop what, as I have consistently noted in my defence of the story in the TV Club thread, are some very strong attempts at depicting truly alien species.
Here are links to my posts on each episode of The Web Planet, to start us off:
Oh no! I was releived to see the Wep Planet love was over - and now there’s an entire thread of it! More of it! This is my nemesis! The Moriarty to my Sherlock! The Darth Vader to my Luke! The Khan to my Kirk! The Thanos to my half of the universe!
The only thread I’m definitely going to mute…
(And don’t make a badge for this - I really, really, really, really don’t want to feel obliged to get it…)
While getting together the various bit and pieces for my visit to Vortis, I suddenly remembered that this book has a section on the Zarbi and Menoptera written in a semi-fictional manner. Haven’t read it for years!
