Big Finish needs to take notes. This (from reading the link summary) is what a podcast is; not having someone do an intro and outro for the first part of a pre-existing audio.
To be fair to BF, they do also have an actual official podcast where they do the same as this podcast (and with a much more palatable style IMO).
The Into the TARDIS podcast is designed to give us Doctor Who audios for free in a sort of ‘weekly radio drama’ format. I don’t really see the issue with that.
I’m looking forward to when they release something I don’t already own (which I think might be fairly soon because I think the next one after Fanfare of the Common Men is one I don’t have).
I am aware of the actual podcast they do, which is why I find it even odder that they’re calling Into the TARDIS a podcast when it really isn’t. They remind me more of those advertisements hotels and resorts repeatedly play on their personal TV channels.
I suppose they’re calling it a podcast because it’s like many of the drama podcasts out there - my eldest listens to one called Welcome to Night Vale. It just so happens to be material they’ve already released.
What would be a better term, do you think then for all those such productions?
But as I say, I welcome free Doctor Who stories however they might be presented to me.
Into The TARDIS is definitely a podcast. Just one using pre-existing material that has been available commercially elsewhere. BF have done it the other way round also, First Action Bureau was originally a podcast then released as a CD/download.
It’s probably called a podcast because podcasts are popular right now, so it’s easy to market snd distribute it as such.
I didn’t know that about First Action Bureau.
hope you didn’t buy it lol
Ha! No - but I did think it was a bit of a random release for them. I know it was Gerry Anderson, but it didn’t have the IP that most of their Anderson stuff has.
Colin Baker just sounds so happy during that intro each time. “I’m Colin Baker and this is my podcast”. I’ll happily listen to that before each story they present to us for free
Tried both Versions of the Podcast out in the past and neither of which really appealed to me. It’s a nice idea on paper but having something like an “Official” Podcast, kinda defeats the whole point of those, at least for me. There isn’t too much appeal left in there.
As for how it sounds and what language is used, yeah no, not for me at all. Hope others find enjoyment in it!
I also prefer the old hosts over the new ones. The old hosts are more enjoyable and the humor is much more my thing. I don’t listen to the podcasts often but it’s good.
