The Nature Photos Thread

Since I couldn’t find a pre-existing thread for this I thought I’d make one. This thread is for pictures of nature, animals, plants and fungi you find in the wild or on zoos!

Inspired by the walk I took today with two friends and spotted several cool insects including shield bugs, herons, buzzards and red deer :star_struck:

I took a few photos of this absolutely beauty (cw for wasps/flies!):

This is Urocerus gigas! She’s a giant woodwasp – although despite the name she’s not a wasp (you can tell because she doesn’t have a stinger or thin waist), she’s a sawfly! And they’re harmless to humans (although she did give us a bit of a fright at first!).

She was also ABSOLUTELY MASSIVE – over 5cm long which is big even for the species. She and a friend were laying eggs in the dead wood with their ovipositors. According to the internet the eggs can take several years to hatch!

What wild animals or plants have you encountered during your adventures? Do you have any favourite photos? Share them here!

Lovely idea for a thread!

Yesterday, I posted a picture of Hubert, the deer buck who frequents our garden. Well, today we spotted his wife, who we christened Hilda. This picture isn’t the vest, but you can just make out that Hilda is pregnant, which means that we might soon see baby deer running around :star_struck:

Robins have their nest in one of our apple trees. This is their second batch, the first batch had three eggs.
