The Fifth Doctor Adventures: Dream Team

Released today! What did everyone think? I have a backlog to get through but I see a very fun pair of adventures for the S19 team when I get to it!

I’m trying to slot this in later this week, seeing as I just caught up with the other new releases!

I understand that it might not be to everyone’s taste but The Merfolk Murders very much are to my taste. One of my favorite stories in a long time and a compelling murder mystery too. I’d love to see more from The Merfolk and I’m very curious to see the stories that inspired Sarah Jane to write the Orion Hood series.

I haven’t listened to ‘Dream Team’ yet, but looking forward to hearing what Hopley does with the dream crabs.

‘The Merfolk Murders’ on the other hand… can someone just put Tim Foley in charge of the 5DAs, because this is his third phenomenal script for the range.

I don’t think it quite beats ‘Nightjar’ for me, but it comes damn close.

Oh my gosh YES I adored The Merfolk Murders. Adric’s subplot was particularly heartbreaking to me, I love that they comitted and gave him a budding mlm romance, but there’s an added tragedy knowing that of all characters, Adric is one who can never have that ending. Hoping to see more true historicals in the range’s future.

Dream Team I was less keen on but I’ve warmed to it. It’s just a matter of being limited by the format, Hopley provides some very interesting ideas for the Dream Crabs but there isn’t nearly enough time to actually explore them. The gimmick of telling the story with only the four central cast members is interesting but ends up being another downfall, I feel like this story needed a villain to really latch onto, rather than what the story actually ends up doing, if you know you know.

It’s still a strong set though, and I’ve reviewed both stories.
